-   My hp officejet dl 55 xi has a mind of it's own!

When I try to copy, I get the message:

open carriage door, clear paper jam, and then press enter
I do, -- no paper jam--, close and press enter - then

it shows copying 1 of 1, but nothing happens.

press enter, it shows busy & goes back to copying 1 of 1
press copy, it shows busy & goes back to copying 1 of 1

sometimes it goes beep, beep, beep when buttons are pushed.

It cannot be shut off with the power button, it must be unplugged when it is doing this.

Help!!!!!

Benn40,

You didn?t say but I?m assuming you?re getting a status code error, which indicates where the printer thinks the jam is located:

E2 = copy paper has misfed; refer to page 36 for clearing instructions.
A1 or A2 = single pass feeder; refer to page 37 & 38 for clearing instructions.

If you don?t have your manual you can download a copy from the Xerox site here:
http://download.support.xerox.com/pub/do...

As was mentioned in an earlier post you?re going to have to carefully scan the paper path for paper remnants that may be covering your sensor. If you?re positive nothing is blocking the path then its likely a sensor or perhaps a controller board has failed. That will likely require a trip to the local authorized Xerox repair shop.

Hope this helps and please don?t forget to rate this posting.

You can also try feeding a piece of A4 card backward through the mechanism. Be careful not to get too close to the right hand side as you could damage teh paper sensor.

Tip the machine on it's back and gently feed the card backward through the rollers ath front and between the main feed roller and the smaller pinch rollers. Once throught the pinch rollers, pushe the card steadiley back. If you meet a bit more resistance be carefull. Pushing too hard may cause more damage - you may be pushing against the sensor paddle. Move the card left a little a keep trying.

You may find a paper clip, piece of paper, old coin, toy soldier or many other things fall out of the back.

Look closly to see if a bit of paper (or paper scrap/dust) has built up around the paper feed sensor. If so clean it and see if that helps.

I'm sure you've taken a hammer to your printer long ago, but I think this will fix the problem if you haven't. I went crazy with my hp3930 - it always thought it had a paper jam no matter what I did to convince it otherwise. I did the restart/on and off/cancel jobs bit - none of that mattered. Here's the deal - the HP3930 is a really wierd printer. If you load the paper in normally - IT WILL NOT WORK CORRECTLY - it will intake a bunch of sheets instead of 1 at a time, if you can get it to print at all. The solution - don't give it too much paper and don't put the edge of the paper stack very far into the tray. Just put it in far enough for the printer to be able to pick up the paper - any farther and this printer won't work for you.

When I go to print the printer pulls the paper over half way down in the printer before it prints so the whole top half of the paper is blank.
