Question about Samsung 793S 17" CRT Monitor
There's a black horizontal flickering line about 5" from the bottom on my 3 year old Samsung Syncmaster 793s 17" CRT Monitor. I want to know if it is a monitor problem or graphics card or the cable problem. It does come even on the OSD. This problem only started recently. I've made no changes to the set-up since the beginning. It is connected to APC Back-UPS RS 800 as the pwer source. Is it a problem due to power source? Please help
Well to narrow down the problem I would suggest first that you try to disconnect the monitor from your APC Back-UPS and just plug it directly to the wall outlet, UPS or surge protectors may cause interference at times with some electronic devices. Then if it's still here, I would recommend that you try to degauss the monitor, all CRT monitors have this option in the OSD. You should also check if there is any magnetic device near the monitor, like a speaker or phone that can cause this. If another PC is available can you try it there also, see if the problem is seen on another PC.
Finally, run the monitor self-test, to do this just leave the monitor plugged into the power outlet and disconnet the video cable, and you'll see it. If the problem is still there then most likely the monitor will have to be checked in a service center or be replaced eventually, since this would already be a hardware problem. Especially since you said the problem is apparent even in the OSD.
Hope this helps!
