CD- drive Until recently the CD-drive was working perfectly. When I turned it on a few minutes ago, there is no evidence of the drive. Like it isn't there and no CD's are read. What can I do?

choose properties
click on hardware tab
click on device manager
on the device manager window, click on the cd/dvd drive and see if it's there

do you mean the driver software? try to reinstall the burner software. if the drive is not detected, go to control panel / add new hardware and let windows detect the hardware. is it present in the device manager?

Check the physical connection for your hard drive. Sometimes they get loose. With the computer off and the battery removed, remove he hard drive and then replace it. Try to boot again.

If this fails to help, you may have a hard drive failure and need to replace it.

My HP Compaq 6735s.I got it as a present from my

I hate Compaq since HP bought them out yrs ago. Anyways a few suggestions.
1 unplug it and take the battery out and wait say 5 minutes put it back in and all and turn on. Still nothing? Try leaving the battery out and just plug it in and turn on..... No? Put any disk in the drive and try both with battery and plugged in and without battery.

I've had this irritation with my Dell a few times. I turn it on and nothing but a blank screen. If you have anything plugged into it such as phone or other usb devices unplug them. they do sometimes interfere. The dvd/cd drive Did the same to me even when I first bought my unit but after a while of just leaving a disk in the drive it quit. I asked about that problem myself and it's nothing to worry about. If the problem does persist I would suggest running a few system scans updating drivers and scanning for spyware trojans malware virus' and so on. these can cause such problems

Hello there:
If you look real closly at the cd rom door you will see a very small hole
simply get a paperclip and straiten it out and insert it in the hole untill you feel it stop now just press in on it with firm pressure and you will feel it release the cd rom tray and it should be ok from there ok I hope that this is very helpful for you

Cannot open cd-rom drive!

The thing about cd/dvd drives in general is that they die and thats the case here even if you deleted anything of the operating system its self would notice that the cd drive was missing the driver and ask you about it since you havent stated that its safe to say that the drive is dead

no you just need to fix your bios problem, if you dont have the manual take the battery out of the motherboard that keeps power to the bios keep it out for a few minutes put it back in then turn it on it should go to bios automatically then just go to set best defaults for ststem hit y for yes then hit enter and it should take off fine if it dont then you need to take it to a pro who can reset it for you manually or reprogram it that would be cheapest for you without trashing it.
