HP OfficeJet 6210 stuck in self test

I have an HP officejet 6210 all-in one injet printer and came home today to scan a documnet plugged it in (not enough outlets, too many surge protectors) and only got a self test and then it won't shut down. Everytime I re-plug it in, it only does a self test and the bar goes to the end and then shuts down. Please advise on what to do next.

Same problem. Requested input from HP site and they suggest reset
the printer by holding down two keys (#6) which still does not work.
Read some more on the web and see others suggest (# 3) that doesn't
    work either. Anymore advice???

SOURCE: hp officejet 6210 won't print

Perform the following steps:

a) Turn the printer on.
b) Open the printer’s top cover.
c) After the print cartridges have moved to the center/home position of the printer, unplug the printer’s power cord from the electrical outlet.
d) Remove the print cartridges.
e) Using a dry, lint-free, clean cloth, wipe the print cartridge contacts, from the top to the bottom
f) The contacts inside the printer may also require cleaning. Using a dry, lint-free, clean cloth, gently wipe the contacts, from the top to the bottom
g) Plug the printer's power cord into the electrical outlet.

1. Verify that the unit is switched on. Unplug the all-in-one from power and disconnect the connection port.
2. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Plug in the power only.
4. Repeat steps 2-4 two more times.
5. On the third time after plugging the unit into power, reconnect the connection port from the all-in-one to your computer.

Now, perform the following:

1. Unplug the power cable from printer when the printer is powered on and wait for 20 seconds.

2. Then, press and hold # and 6 while plugging in the power cord.

Continue holding until it displays Semi Full Reset message in the front panel of the All-in-One.

SOURCE: how to check ink level on hp officejet 6210 all-in-one printer

  • Open the Printer Toolbox . There are two ways to do this:
    • Click Start and select HP Solution Center . Select the Settings menu, then the Print Settings submenu, and finally the Printer Toolbox .
    • In your printing application, click File , click Print , and click Properties . Click the Services tab, then the Service This Device icon.
  • The Printer Toolbox opens. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. A cartridge may be running out of ink even if the graphic shows ink remaining (see the note at the start of this section). Lines or streaks always appear in printouts when the cartridges begin to run out of ink. Replace print cartridges that are out of ink or low on ink.

The Officejet is stuck on SelfTest and stopped working

Self test is there to test the unit- do a self diagnosis and test the functions of the machine before it is operational, if it gets stuck at one of the test or one of the tests fail then the unit is inoperative until the fault is fixed.

What you can try is taking the power cord out from the unit while its stuck wait 2 minutes and plug it back in.

if the issue remains then there are 3 resets that you can try

    partial reset
    semi full reset
    full reset

here are the partial reset instructions
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=za&docname=c00060793

the two other resets are, same as the partial reset but the 3 is replaced with a 6 for semi full reset and 9 for a full reset.

if the problem remains after this then you have a hardware problem, take it to a repairer.

Turn it off and unplug it for about 30 seconds. Plug it back in, turn it on and try printing a Self-Test (Setup, 2, 5). If this works, try printing your document again.
