SOURCE: Fostex MR 8 HD\CD adding treble and bass?

It APPEARS that the MR8 does NOT include the ability to EQ. They have delay effects and the like built in, but no EQ.

To answer your question then, you would need to have an EXTERNAL EQ unit and loop the vocal through that unit to do EQ to do it right.

When mastering, the "powerful/natural/and bright would be filters that will emphasize the bass (powerful) or the treble (bright) but these are really not EQ's and you can ONLY choose one at a time.

If you can reformat the drive after dumping out anything you want saved MIGHT fix the problem...

The unit MAY not be able to tolerate fragmenting when you delete a snippet here and there... It may require large blocks of contiguous space.

First you can format the flashcard FAT-32 on your computer. If that does not help your card maybe broken or the brand is not supported. Than try to use another brand. Kingston and Transcend always make te best choice.

Note that the name of the song CANNOT have blanks and the use of special characters is limited.

If you need a space in the name you have to use the underscore to creat a "space".

You have a memory problem. If you are using a flash card for memory or a CD drive or perhaps you have configured an external drive, you need to free up some space. Try deleting tracks or songs you don't need anymore.

Each song is independent on a CompactFlash
without affecting other songs. You can give a desired song name for managing recorded songs
(see pages 23 and 91).
Recorded track data is stored in a song as mono WAV files.
The MR-8mkII can convert the two WAV files recorded on tracks 7 and 8 (L and R) to a stereo
WAV file (see page 115).
You can export the converted stereo WAV file to your USB-connected personal computer, and
use the file by a music software application or make an original audio CD on the computer using
a CD burn software application. You can also burn an audio CD by using an external CD-R/RW
drive connected via the [USB HOST] port of the MR-8mkII (see page 115 and 123)

How long should it take to format a Fostex MR-8HD 40 gb drive?

The speed will depend on the speed of the processor used. However if it has not finished after 8 hours, shut it down and restart if it seems the drive is in endless loop. Check jumper settings before you restart..

Hard drive failure

First thing is to open the unit and make sure the drive is connected. Sometimes cables get knocked off.

Next get a new drive... they are relatively inexpensive, like $69 or so and try it.

Take the old drive in your hand and snap your wrist to impart a spin to it. Then try the drive again... If it comes back to life, SAVE ALL THE DATA from it quick, and transfer to the new drive.

Hi, i have a fostex dmt-8. i need to change the hard drive. how can i get in touch with somebody on how to do this and which drive to use?

Remove the drive (should be a panel to remove and slide it out) and take the model number and use Google to find what size drive it is.

MOST of the drives suitable for laptops will work. SOMETIMES a device won't be ablle to talk to a drive over a certain size. Pay attention to the drive RPM of the original and use at least as fast.
