SOURCE: Hooking up the WD Passport to a USB enabled CD/DVD player possible?

The WD is on USB 2.0 - if it's reading the 2GB drive, could it be that the 320GB one is just too big to read...even though I hardly have much on it? Or maybe I just need to reformat the 320GB drive?

SOURCE: dropped a WD passport drive, now it won't load. HELP!

Unfortunately, these drives are not made to be dropped.

It sounds like it was damaged by the drop which could have rendered the read/write heads inoperable or mis-aligned.

Contact Western Digital for a warranty replacement.

SOURCE: wd passport file customizing

If you open the Computer directory and identify the drive letter for the WD Passport drive, right-click on the drive folder and select properties. The properties tool for the drive will open showing several tabs. Select the Customize tab and you will see a heading for "use this folder type as a template" with a drop down menu. Here you can select different categories for the folder and apply it to subdirectories also by checking the box below. This should give the folders more of a vista look! If you want to personalize further and add your own images to the folder icons you can also do this here. If you don't select the apply to subdirectories option you can manually apply different styles to different folders in subdirectories. If you don't like the way things have turned out you can also restore the default settings.

Hope this answers your question.

Have fun

SOURCE: My passport "removes" my files!

WARNING: Do not think that theyourWD Passport, using the WD Sync software, is a backup drive; it is NOT !

As per the documentation with this device:
"synchronization software is intended to synchronize the data from a
computer to the drive (WD Passport) and SHOULD NOT be used as backup
software. To use this software properly, we advise that you do not wipe or
erase the data from the internal hard drive (computer) and resynchronize, as
this will cause the data that WD Sync stored to the Passport to be deleted."

This is why you are hearing so many people saying that they are deleting the
WD Sync software, reformatting, and using the WC Passport as a true backup
drive where you can actually see the files that you are backing up, rather
than a bunch of unrecognizable sync files that likely don't have all the files that you thought you "backed up".

My WD Passport sounds like a machine running, but my computer doesn't recognise it. I also do not see the lights at the insertion site. Please help, Thanks, Naveen

The lights signal data transfer so no lights = no transfer. It's clear that the hard disk inside your Passport has failed and, since it can't be repaired, all the data was lost and the unit is dead.
Buy a new one.

WD Passport Drive running SLOWWWWW on time machine

USB s slow and when you have huge files it tends to bog it down. it is better to have a firewire transfer. another reason could be your computer is doing to much. leave the computer at one task. walk away and let it work. otherwise you will be using memory.

My WD passport is requiring that I select a password and/or certificate to encrypt every file that I put on it. It didn't do this before, I was able to copy and paste docs right into it, but now it's...

It may be something your antivirus is doing to keep from transferring a virus from the Passport to the Computer or vice versa.

Always be certain to run your antivirus on all periferal storage devices.

How would I set up WD Passport as a permanent back up for my lap top? How do I erase the Passport from a previous transfer of info or does it automatically erase itself after a data transfer?

no it will never erase automatically ether erasing by data. some recovery software can recover it very easily. best way is to use 3 party software or replace your laptop hdd.
