How to remove Autorun.inf Virus ?

Manual way:
1.) Open Notepad and do not write anything in it. Go to File > Save as autorun.inf
2.) Copy the blank autorun.inf file that you have created in the above step and paste it in your "Pen Drives"
3.) Remove your pendrive.
4.) Re-insert your PC. Now your pendrive is safe to use.
Automatic way:
1.) Download Panda USB Vaccine which allows users to vaccinate their PCs in order to disable autorun completely so that no program from any USB/CD/DVD drive can auto-execute.
2.) Download Flash_Disinfector.exe and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear.
  • The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives including your mobile phone.
  • Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.
  • Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
  • Reboot your computer when done.
Flash Disinfector will remove any autorun.inf files; create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you ran it. Don't delete this folder. It will help protect your drives from future infection

Windows Cannot Find "Copy.exe"

When i installed AVG Free last time it removed few virus including "copy.exe". so whenever i go to "My Computer" (win key + E) and double click on any hard drive then i find an error stating that (Windows cannot find "Copy.exe").
Solution:
Well the solution for this "copy.exe" conundrum is to get rid of a file called autorun.inf in each of the infected hard drives. here's the solution for the problem......

Make sure you or the virus scanner is run through the infected hard drives/flash drives. to make sure the virus files is gone.
Now, some forums said you could just select "Show Hidden Files" from the option and this would enable you to see "autorun.inf" file.
Also, some entries in the "autorun.inf"may be legitimate. so to check the file (even when you can't see the file) do this: Type in the infected hard drive label followed by autorun.inf for example f:\autorun.inf
This will load autorun.inf file in notepad.if the only entry is that incriminating copy.exe then this is what i did. i tried to overwrite the file with the same name autorun.inf. that din't work because autorun file was readonly. so i saved that blank file on the desktop and simply cut it and pasted it into the drive, then selecting the overwrite option. that should stop that annoying windows cannot find "copy.exe" message every time you double click into a drive. this will solve the problem!

CD html presentation-hyperlinks don't work with other pc's

To create an Autorun-enabled CD-ROM, proceed as follows:
  • Create an Autorun.inf File
    Autorun.inf is a text file that is located in the root folder of your application CD-ROM. It provides to the computer the name and the location of the startup program for your application that is installed when the CD-ROM is inserted. The Autorun.inf file can also contain optional information including the following:
  • The name of a file that contains an icon that represents your application's CD-ROM drive. This icon appears in Windows Explorer instead of the standard drive icon.
  • Additional commands for the shortcut menu that appears when the user right-clicks the CD-ROM icon. You can also specify the default command that runs when the user double-clicks the icon. Autorun.inf files are similar to .ini files.
  • The [autorun] section contains the default Autorun commands. All Autorun.inf files must have an [autorun] section.
  • icon: Specifies the path and the file name of an application-specific icon for the CD-ROM drive.
  • open: Specifies the path and the file name of the startup application.

Autorun.infThe following is an example of a simple Autorun.inf file. It specifies Filename.exe as the startup application. The second icon represents the CD-ROM drive instead of the standard drive icon.
[autorun]
open=Filename.exe
icon=Filename.ico

Autorun.inf doesn't open file in internet browser

Hello ksharp628,

I use a program called autorun.exe One limitation of the standard AutoRun facility is the fact that it will only run executable programs; it will not by itself open document files such as web pages or text files. AutoRun.exe is designed to circumvent this restriction: it will open any number of document files or start executable programs. Moreover, it is smart enough to use a sensible fall-back strategy if no documents can be opened, perhaps because the target system does not have the required support for those document types.

example of my autorun.inf
[autorun]
open=autorun.exe msn.html
action=Run MSN.com
icon=msn.ico

in root of thumb drive I have Autorun.exe Autorun.inf MSN.html and my ICON msn.ico wich i did a search for on my computer

I hade t make and msn.html

my edited msn.html file open in txt format
<meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" content="0; url=http://www.msn.com">

You can replace with what ever website you want and rename it to that.

This autrun.inf setup will popup the autrun box and ask you pick an option. this is as close to running the webpage when inserting the usb drive. The program comes with a .pdf on many options wich can be used with autorun.exe.

the link to the autrun.exe program is found below.

Hope this helps you, take care.

Create your own autorun CD or DVD

It is easy to create an autorun CD or DVD for Windows and all it takes are a few files (which we've supplied for free). The technique can be used to open other file types, but HTML is used for a reason: it is the most commonly supported by Windows (most PCs have a Web browser) and it is flexible. You could use it to open other files, such as a Powerpoint presentation, but it would require the end user to have Powerpoint or the Powerpoint viewer on their system.

The autorun zip file we've prepared contains everything you need to autorun a CD and open a HTML file. So download a copy - it's tiny and free - see above for the download link.

So why can't an autorun open a HTML directly? It is because a Windows autorun can only open an application (program) not a data file (eg HTML). You cannot tell an autorun to directly open a HTML file. Try it, and nothing will happen. To get around his problem, we are using a .bat file which Windows will treat as a program. This special file will then open the HTML file.

Assembling the CD
Download and copy the files to your root directory of the CD. These are: autorun.inf, autorun.bat and index.html. You can put all sorts of files on the rest of the CD. They won't affect the autorun. You can test the autorun by burning the three files to the root directory of a test CD-R. Open the CD drive and close it again. Viola, you have just created your own autorun HTML CD. You should change the contents of index.html to whatever you need. The index.html supplied is only a test page.

Changes you can make
The autorun can open any type of file and display any message you want. To make changes, open Windows Notepad (do not use Word, WordPad or other Word processors). Now open the autorun.bat file from within Notepad. The order is important, if you double-click the autorun.bat file, it will try to run. So open NotePad and select File-Open and choose the autorun.bat file. You'll see four lines of code.

The first line after @echo (remember the space) will appear as a comment in the autorun launch Window. This comment will be seen very briefly by your end-users. It can be changed to anything you want, but since it only appears for a second or less, don't make it too wordy. If you wanted to say 'The CD is loading now...', the first line of code will look like:

@echo The CD is loading now...

The second line of the code tells the .bat file to open to your index.html file. If want to open a file by another file (eg readme.txt), then it would read:

@start readme.txt

Make sure you leave the last two lines untouched (@cls and @exit) - they must always appear last. Save the changes and you are done. That that's all you need to create your own HTML autorun CD.

My computer does not have a AutoPlay feature in it so I can insert and run my Cd-ROM PC games. It must have come with one but I can't find it.

Enabling AutoPlay on a data and audio CD (Windows XP)
  1. Open My Computer or Explorer
  2. Highlight the CD-ROM drive, right-click the CD-ROM drive and click properties.
  3. Click the AutoPlay tab. Within this section you will be able to specify all Windows AutoPlay features.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
