I have a Nikon Coolpix L830. I keep getting a frozen screen, then blinking and a message that says "Card Cannot be read". I used it once and it took great pics, the next time I was going to use it is when this problem started.

Hello, the memory card need formatting regularly, but we usually not do that. for longer use we have to format it regularly. your problem relates to this matter or your card may be fall down or damaged by any means. but as you said when you incert new memory card there is a same message it means there is some prolem with camera not with memory card. so you have to go to nikon shop. good luck...

Did the 1st card ever work? (i.e. is the camera new to you). After many uses, the memory cards need to be reformatted (thru your Setup menu). Post the make and model of the cards and we can check to see if they're compatible w/ your camera.

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Have just purchased a Nikon Coolpix S3000/ Bought a SanDisk 2gb memory card whch will not work just says 'write protected'. Have looked for a switch on side to unlock but there doesnt appear to be one. ...

Hello
The problem is likely to be in SD card
This problem mostly comes with SD cards which have lock switch, your card have no switch at all so using a card reader, format it and put back in camera, hope it works if not it should be in warranty, avail your warranty option and replace it immediately.
Good Luck
hope it helps, if so do rate the solution

Camera goes through format routine, but card but

The 4500 uses SD cards. Your 8GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is not electronically compatible with the camera. You'll have to restrict yourself to SD cards 2GB and smaller.

New 4GB Skandisk card, no memory and no images message

Hi,
Make sure the write protect lock is off by taking the card out of the camera, face the card towards you, look for a small white tab on the left hand side of the card, to unlock it push the tab down, it will be at the side of the card like this 59a6de4.jpg . Pop it back in the camera and use the menu to format the card.
Hope this helps
