Question about Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

Cooktop manifold gas line size

My range came with a 3/4" gas line for the cooktop. The manual states it is
1/2" . It even comes with a plastic bag taped to the gas line with a 1/2"
90 degree street elbow inside with instructions that say to use it on the pipe ?
there is very limited access on the back of this range and it is impossible to use any 3/4" fittings on this range with out removing one of the cooling fans. I do not believe I would be able to reinstall the fan after the fittings would be installed.I can not get a answer from anyone about why it does not have a 1/2" pipe like the manual states. For the money I paid for this range I feel I should not have to relocate cooling fans to hook up a gas line. Does anyone else have this problem or is my range the only one like this?

If this is brand new go back to the makers of the stove. And ask them why don't do any modification's to the stove it could invalidate any warranty.

SOURCE: gas pipe manifold pipe size is 3/4 " , should be 1/2 "

find it comicall that the last 3 suggestions all though im sure they wanted to help , not an appliance background on any of them.GOOD SHOW!! you state you just recieved this unit??? did you buy it from a dealer new, or aquire it second hand from another source?? without seeing it for myself im takin you word that its sized incorrctly. did you try calling the manufacture ( they would know their product better then anyone and if there is a discrpency they will be able offer you a solution)definatly should not be relocating or unhooking cooling fans to install the unit. 1-800-735-4328
i did download an installation manual, didnt have your model but checked a few and seemed to be the same. asking that you install the supplied pressure regulator, perhaps you didnt install that and thats where the pipe sizing diff is.

Gas pipe manifold pipe size is 3/4 " , should be 1/2 "

The manual says the pipe of the internal gas line is 1/2 and the external line 3/4 flex gas line :
Use 3/4" flex line to connect between the gas supply and the appliance manifold
pipe, which exits the upper rear of the appliance on 30” and 36” ranges. The appliance manifold pipe connection is 1/2" NPT. Use caution to avoid crimping the 3/4" flex line when making bends.
Suggested length of flex line is 48";moz-screenshot-2.jpg

Use 3/4" flex line to connect between the gas
supply and the appliance manifold pipe.

Viking model VGR48 stovetop burners will not ignite?

First shut off the gas supply & disconnect electrical power to the range.
  • Remove all the burner control knobs, grates, burner caps & trim rings.
  • Remove the 2 screws securing the manifold panel, one from each corner. The panel will drop down.
  • Remove the screws from each manifold pipe mounting bracket. Remove 1/4 inch hex head bolt from the center of the manifold pipe. Push supply tube back to release from manifold pipe. Lift the cooktop assembly at the front to clear the 1/2 inch locator pins attached to the top of the bodyside.
  • Place cardboard between each side of cooktop & bodyside to prevent damage.
  • Move the cooktop to one side, being careful not to put stress on the wiring harness on left side.
  • Remove the wire from the electrode.
  • Remove the screw from the electrode mounting bracket to release the electrode.
You can replace the electrode & reassemble following instructions in reverse order.

How do I increase the flame height on my thermador cooktop that had a PLP conversion kit installed?

Make sure the regulator was changed to the proper gas. You should be able to unscrew the cap and you will see a plastic piece stuck in the cap. Flipping it over changes the pressure on the spring for the appropriate gas. Otherwise the burner orifices could be drilled out 1 size larger.

Changing from natural gas to lp.

By getting a gas license! LOL

Remember to tip your waitress! I'll be here all week - Goodnight! it out of my we go:

1. Find out if a conversion kit exists. Answer: Yes it fact it came with it originally. If it had me doing the install, I would have taped the kit to the back of the range.

....and I quote, "IMPORTANT: Your cooktop is factory-set for use with natural gas. If you wish to use L.P. Gas, an L.P. Gas Conversion Kit is included with your new range. Models with the TripleTier Flame Burner will include a TripleTier L.P. Gas Conversion Kit and a kit for standard ranges. See “Installation Instructions” for details on making this conversion.
2. Obtain the kit. This is more difficult than actually doing the conversion. Unless you have a dealer nearby, I'd simply call Kitchenaid directly: (1.800.461.5681) They will either send it to you directly (quite possibly for FREE) or point you in the right direction.
3. The kit will come with instructions, but briefly, here's what you're getting into: The kit will consist of 1-3 orifices. These will reduce the amount of flow going to the burner(s).
Why? Two reasons: a) Propane burns hotter and b) Propane moves quicker than N.G.
You might need: Allan Keys, Screwdrivers, Channel Locks, Adjustable Wrench.
You'll just disassemble the manifold, install the orifice(s), and GO!

Good Luck.

Cleaning grates of GE profile gas stove

Sounds crazy, but this works. Soak the grates in warm to hot water with 2 dryer sheets (Bounce), let them soak for an hour or two. Unbeliveable how they came clean. I did have to use a Scotch Brite pad on the two that I use most, but it sure beats replacing them.
