No power after storm

You will need to replace it. The storm fried your board for sure, there is no fix for that, and a broken board is useless. you can't really put it back together because the entire surface of an electornics board is conducting electricity through it from component to component. If it could be fixed, it will surely cost you more to fix than buy a new one. Sorry to be the bad news bearer but it is shot, you are left with a giant paperweight.

My Sony kp53hs10 turns on and has a picture but in afew seconds the screen goes blank and I see 7 blinking lights. Any ideas?

Good day!!!!

That problem is usually cause of faulty capacitors on the power supply section..

Just follow this instruction to fix your TV..

1. Open the back cover of your TV.
2. Look at the power supply board..Its normally connected to the power cord..
3. After that,,try to look at the actual image of capacitors if it is bulged on the top so that you can easily determine the bad capacitors..
4. After that,,try to replaced the bad capacitors using soldering iron and soldering lead..replaced the capacitors only with the same type ratings and value..
5. Some of the capacitors not bulged so its better if have a capacitance meter

I hope this will help in solving the problem..

My sony t.v would not power

Hello,
The issue you describe is consistent with a power supply board issue. This is the board where the AC goes to. This problem may have occurred as a result of irregular power supply, or excess power supply or power surge.
The TV is receiving current but cannot circulate or transfer the current to other necessary part of the TV because of the defective power supply board. You might be lucky it's just a blow fuse. Also a defective transformer can cause your TV not to power on.
All these can be checked on the power supply board.
But more often bad capacitors causes problem on the power supply board. I do not think the power board needs replacement, rather those defective capacitors is causing this issue. Open unit up and take a look at the power supply board. You will probably see one or more electrolytic filter capacitors that are bulged up in the top-not perfectly flat like the others.
The value of these capacitors will be different, most likely they will be somewhere around-820 to 2200uF/25 V( or /10V sometimes)
You can replace them with same values but I would recommend the voltage rating to be higher(like 35V for an original 25V) for reliability purposes.
What happens is,these bulged top capacitors will cause a low and unfiltered DC voltage=main board will malfunction(the relay will keep clicking until the caps are holding enough charge to bring the voltage up over a threshold point).
You can buy these capacitors at any Fry's or Radioshack store or you can order them online at vendors like "mcmelectronics.com"(look for electrolytic capacitors). After replacing these capacitor(capacitors) most likely the normal operation will be restored. Or you can by a refurbished complete power board to save you some stress.
Note: There may be also some other causes for this symptom ,like a defective T con board ,or main board, but the bulged top capacitors are the most common cause for this issue.
If you don't know about TV repairers, take the TV to the nearest repairman to fix the fault for you. Also, note that TV stores a lot of current, so wait a while before opening the TV back cover.
I hope this helps.
Regards.

I have a 2000 Sony KP-53HS10 color rear video projector, Just yesterday it turned off in the middle of watching it and the timer/standby light merely blinks. When I unplug it and replug it in, the same...

Good day!!!

That problem is usually have 2 causes..Its either power supply board or mainboard..

Please take this steps on how to determine the problem:
  1. Open the back cover.
  2. Check the power supply output...It should have 5vdc for the main board..12vdc or 16vdc for the audio and 24vdc for the back-light inverter..
  3. If those 3 voltage supplies have encountered voltage drop...The problem could be on power supply board..
  4. If the power supply output is normal..The problem could be on the main board...
  5. If the problem is power supply you should check if the capacitors are bulged on the top and try to replaced it..If you can't do that you can purchased new power supply board..
  6. If the problem is on main board there is no D.I.Y repair on that so you need to buy a new main board that fits to your TV..
Hope thissolution will be helpful..

Thanks for using fixya...

Tv in standby mode will not show picture

it's a power supply fault, if its an LCD or Plasma TV you may be able to buy a new power supply board online. (usually about £80-120)

if your handy with electronics, you may find a blown resistor or capacitor on the power supply board.

be carefull though, the PSU board stores high voltage electricity even when unplugged!

Power on

The power board has parts going out on it. A slow decline in performance usually points to a bad capacitor or power transistor. Take a look at the power board. The board will show extreme overheating evidence if you had a meltdown. If it looks clean, maybe it is just a bad capacitor. If you see a capacitor that looks like the top is bulging out, that is a sign of a bad part. Unless you like to solder, consider this tv done for.
