SOURCE: I have a Carrier air/furnace

Problem: Your furnace will not ignite the gas to produce heat for your home. When a furnace has a bad ignitor what I see most of the time is the following sequence of operation:

1. Thermostat calls for heat. 2. Draft inducer motor starts. 3. Pressure switch attached by a small plastic or rubber tube senses the negative pressure produced by the draft inducer and closes. 4. Draft inducer runs for 30 seconds to a minute before you hear a gas hissing sound. The ignitor did not glow, the flame sensor (a small metal probe about 1/8" in diameter, with a white porcelain base) does not sense the flame, so after 8 to 10 seconds the hissing sounds stops with no ignition of gas to heat your home. Your furnace shuts down and goes into a lock out condition until you turn your power switch back off and on again. Then the sequence starts all over again with no ignition of the gas. Solution:You probably need to purchase and install a new ignitor. I would suggest that you inspect your ignitor closely for cracks. Make sure you do not touch the ignitor with your bare hands. If you do not visually see a crack, then you could have a furnace control board problem or a limit, rollout switch problem. Please see The furnace's control board might not be supplying the voltage to the ignitor. If your furnace lights and the gas stays on for 8 to 10 seconds, then shuts right back off, then you need to clean your flame sensor with light sand paper or steel wool. You might need a new flame sensor, but most of the time they can be cleaned an will work well after cleaning. Circuit board may need replacing.

My carrier model # 48ss-036100331 induced-draft motor will not start

On some of those inducer motors there is also a capacitor in the blower compartment on the left side of the burner section. It is possible that if you have 230v coming from the board CM terminals and if the motor is new maybe you have a bad capacitor in the blower section. Follow the wires to the capacitor and check microfarad reading to that capacitor. Caution there maybe 2 in this area but one is for the indoor blower motor and the other will be for the draft motor. The blower capacitor may be somewhere between 10 or 15 mfd but the draft inducer capacitor will be around 3 mfd. hope this helps

What does error 21 mean?

Precor Error Code 21 Error Code: 21 Manufacturer: Precor
Model: All Models
Error Description: Error 21, Too many Consecutive Power Requests- The error 21 observes a treadmill's power bit reading when the treadmill was operating at speeds above 1 mph. Power bits indicate the relative time that the motor controller drive circuit is turned on. Power bits is an indication of the amount of power the load is demanding from the motor controller. Error 21 indicates that at a speed greater than 1 mph, an excessive amount of power is being demanded from the motor controller. Possible Reason:
  1. A badly worn deck and/or running belt can cause the error to appear when the unit is in use.
  2. Badly worn drive motor brushes may not be making proper contact with the drive motor commutator causing the error to occur when the unit is in use. The unit may also slow down or become sluggish when the load or speed is increased.
  3. A jumper may be required on the lower PCA if installed into a 120 VAC (Version 2) treadmill.
  4. A leaky or shorted drive motor filter capacitor (on units equipped with SCR motor controller) could increase the current demand enough to cause the error.
  5. A leaky or shorted drive motor inductor (on units equipped with SCR motor controller) could increase the current demand enough to cause the error.
  6. The high power demand is caused by a shorted or de-magnetized drive motor.
Recommended Action:
  1. Determine the amount of AC input current being drawn by the unit under no load and loaded conditions using a clamp on AC ammeter. The current displayed can be used to determine the condition of the deck and/or running belt. These same readings should be taken on a like unit, in good operating condition with a know good deck and running belt. The readings from the unit in good operationg condition can be used as the benchmark. Compare readings and replace* the deck and/or running belt if necessary. *Some units have a reversible deck. Be sure if the deck is being flipped or replaced, a new belt is installed on the new deck surface.*
  2. Inspect and repalce both drive motor brushes if necessary.
  3. Inspect the lower PCA (if unit is 120 VAC/ Version 2) for jumper. If jumper is not installed, error typically appears between 7 mph & 8 mph. Install jumper if necessary. CAUTION - DO NOT install jumper if unit is 240 VAC. Installing the jumper on a 240 VAC unit will casue the lower PCA to fail.
  4. Measure the AC input current without a load using a clamp on AC ammeter. Electrically isolate the filter capacitor from the drive motor circuit. The drive motor leads need be kept intact so the drive motor will operate with the filter capacitor removed from the circuit. Re-measure the no load AC input. If the AC input current is significantly lower, replace the filter capacitor.
  5. Measure the AC input current without a load using a clamp on AC ammeter. Electrically isolate the inductor from the drive motor circuit. The drive motor leads need be kept intact so the drive motor will operate with the inductor removed from the circuit. Re-measure the no load AC input. If the AC input current is significantly lower, replace the inductor.
  6. Swap the existing drive motor with a known good drive motor.

If the induction motor ain't going I would look for a blown 3 amp (purple) fuse on the control board. If that was good I would check if any of the roll out switches were tripped. If a rollout switch was tripped check or air restrictions somewhere.

York furnace model p2mpd12h06401f flashes 4 times for trouble code does'nt have code list inductor motor comes on but ignitor does'nt come on

Check pressure switch for inducer motor. If switch closes, check for crack in ignitor. If gas valve opens and you can hear/smell gas, the ignitor is bad probably. If pressure switch isn't closed you need to check for blocked vent/chimney/heatexchangers.
