This may seem like a stupid answer but have you checked that the document is centered when sending, if the document is off to one side you will get the black line on the other side.

or check that the glass is clean and the white strip above the glass is clean as this is the machines white reference to set shading. if you have white out on the glass some spirits on a clean cloth will work.

Check to see if thiere is toner spill inside the machine, often that will print black to the sender or there is dried white out on the scanner glass. Take a can of air and blow out the inside of the machine. Lastly, it could be on the drum, have you changed the drum lately.

There may be something on your scanner lense. Make a copy of blank sheet of paper and determine if there is line on copies also. If there is line take a soft cloth and rubbing alcohol and clean the area where you are getting a line. Make a copy again and determine if the line clears at all. If the line gets better keep cleaning the scanner. If the line does not improve then put the machine in the Maintenance MODE.

Unplug the power cord. Put your finger on the menu key first and then plug the unit back up until the machine says Maintenance. The unit will beep and all of the lights will flash. Let the menu key go and press 82 and the unit will say machine error. There will be a number, if it says 00 there is no error. Press stop and then press 55, the machine will " say scanner area set" this will reset your scanner. If the machine says scanner error, there is a problem with your scanner and it will need to be serviced. To exit out of maintenance press stop and then 99, Try making copies again and verify any improvement.

Although I am not familar with your exact machine, this problem is almost always caused by a dirty machine. Often times someone will use White Out corrective flued on a document and then fax it. The white out can flake off and get stuck to the imaging lens strip. You should be able to easily open your machine and clean it.

Guys, this is easy. Look at your mirror where is line came from does the line on the mirror or you have line on your face. Remember, clean is best resolution.

We had the same problem on outgoing faxes or copies, but not on "Help" pages printed from the device, or on incoming faxes. That made us suspect first the scanning glass had dirt or white-out on it - but even after we cleaned the bits of dirt from it, we still had black lines. So next we suspected the scanner lamp. To test it, we started a copy and in the middle of its pulling a page through the ADF, we popped open the ADF a bit to see there was a section of the scanner lamp burned out when it lit up. It matched our black line perfectly.

At the suggestion of a FixYa member, we purchased a Brother CIS Unit, part #LE7949001 from Vance Baldwin Electronics and followed the advice of another FixYa member on replacing the CIS unit. We have a full light on the scanner lamp now, with no black stripes or lines on the outgoing faxes or copies. Thank you FixYa for this forum, and thank you to those who share their knowledge with the rest of us.

Open the cover door, remove drum--seperate toner cartridge from drum and wipe out roler on bottom of toner cartride with a cloth and do the same on the roller on the drum.
