Acer aspire 5517 powers up sometimes and not others. Randomly shuts down.

Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

ACER Aspire 5720 overheat problem?

Try to keep as much ventilation under the laptop as possible.
You can pick up a can of power spray and blow out the unit yourself or have a pro. do it for you.
Dust and lint play a deadly part in overheating with laptops.
Walmart has Ventilation trays in which the laptop sits and is cooled by forced air from underneath.
Make sure the direction of air flow is the same as your laptop.
You dont want to push air into a output vent.

My acer aspire 5315 overheats constantly. i do not put it on my bed, i do not put it on my lap, i dont even rest it on the table in case it overheats straight away, i make sure theres plenty of air flow...

Try cleaning the air vents wit ha compressed air can. If no joy check for a BIOS update on with Acer. If all this does not help may be the sensors or the fans are failing and will need replacement.

Overheating problem, I think

its unusal for an Acer to overheat unless the vents around the fan and extractor vent are blocked, or the fan is not coming on, it should fire up every so often unless there is processor hungry programmes working, so hoover around the vent areas gently. The problem may also be down to a corrupt driver, so to get a clue as to what may be causing it, go to start>all programmes>control panel>administrative tools>event viewer, then look in the left hand list and click on each category and look for any red crosses that appear in the list on the right, if so right click on it select properties and you can then go to microsoft for a possible answer to the problem
