SOURCE: Inputing scientific notation into my calculator

1. To convert a number to scientific equation, use [2nd][Sci]
Exemples 12345 [=] screen shows 12345 Then [2nd][Sci] coverts it to 1.2345 ^04 to the power 4.
2. To enter directly a number in scientific notation (e.g. -1.2345 X10^(-65) a very small number) you use the [EE] key 1.2345[+ /-][EE][+/-]65 shows as -1.2345 -65
1.6X10^(-19) 1.6[EE][+/-]19 shows as 1.6 -19

Hope it helps

The words FIX DEG appear on the screen and I can't get rid of it. It doesn't calculate properly

DEG says that the angle unit is set to degrees. You can change it to RADians, or GRADs. However much you want to get rid of all of them you will always have one of them. Learn to live with them.
FIX says that the decimal displays will always show a fixed number of decimals. You can decide how many you keep. Apparently your calculator is configured not to show any decimal digits: the number of fixed digits is set to zero. Change it to some other number
There are other display formats : Engineering ENG, and Scientific (SCI)
There is another format (possibly 2) called Norm 1 or Norm 2.
Set you calculator to one of the Normal formats.
Press SHIFT MODE to enter (Setup) and configure.
Advice: Learn to use your calculator. The best way to achieve mastery is to look inside the manual whenever you do not understand something.

Just got a SHARP EL-531X, it won't do simple calculations with scientific notation, It keep saying

To enter the power of 10 with exponent use the Exp key followed by the exponent. If the exponent is negative, you must use the negation key (-) not the - key (for subtraction).
When you press the Exp key you do not type in the 10.

I keep getting 0 for an answer when I input .06785^160?

The answer (0.06785^160= 1.117E-187, or 0.0005^160= 6.842E-529) is much too small to be displayed on normal scientific calculators, where the exponent is usually limited to -99.

Try using the Windows calculator (in scientific view) instead. It can usually be found at Start/All programs/Accessories.

How to work x-1 button keeps saying syntax error

The x^-1 button find the inverse of whatever value you put for x.

For example, if you input 2, the x^-1 button should give you 2^-1, or 1/2, which equals .5

Does this solve your problem?

My HP 35s set keeps saying Memory Clear, I tried taking out the batteries but nothing works. Please assist

Hold down the C key and press the GTO key.

If this doesn't do it, use a thin, pointed object to press the RESET hole. It's on the back of the calculator, near the right edge of the ID plate.

How can i do algebra and keep the pronumerals and not use the inputted number? I am using the latest casio, it is a scientific calculator (not sure which model)

It is always risky to try to answer a question about a calculator of an undisclosed model.
To be able to symbolic algebra (with variables), one needs a calculator with CAS (or Computer Algebra System). These types of calculators are special graphing calculators. ( Not all graphing calculators have a CAS.)

To get back to your question: No, you cannot do algebra with a mere scientific calculator even a recent one. All you can do is define an equation with variables A,B,C,D, Y and X and press the Solve button if it exists. The calculator will ask: Solve for X?. If you say yes, you will be prompted for the values of all letters (A,B,C,D, Y) in your equation and the calculator will search for the value of X, that makes the left side of your equation equal to the right side.

It will display the X-value and the difference L-R.

I have the casio fx 115 and I am not sure exactly what modes to keep it in, such as cmplx or comp, and/or deg or rad. I am trying to find e^(0.03*5) but the calculator says syntax error. What is going on?...

I get an answer of one.
To clear your calculator back to default, to the following:

CLR (the button 9)
3 (select option 3 = All
= (the equal button)
AC (the red AC button)

Your calculator is now reset to factory settings
Now try your calculation.
