Can't scan to folder on XP

I can't get Scan to Folder to work on XP. I have enabled netBIOS over TCP/IP per instructions, and the scanner test says it has connected to the computer successfully but when a document is scanned the status just says 'waiting...' and the document is never delivered to the folder. Folder sharing is also enabled. I was able to get it to work on Windows 7 Pro with no problem. Thanks Melissa

How do I Scan from a C2020?

In regards to scanning from a Canon ImageRunner to a Mac, this used to be done via SMB. But then Apple modernized the SMB protocol in Lion & Mountain Lion & Mavericks, and Canon decided to remain in the dark ages with their old-fashioned SMB protocol support. So therefore, Canon ImageRunners are now incompatible with Lion (OS X 10.7) & Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8) & Mavericks (OS X 10.9) & Yosemite (OS X 10.10) & El Capitan (OS X 10.11) for scanning via SMB.
The solution is that we now have to use the FTP protocol for scanning, when scanning from a Canon ImageRunner to a Mac running Lion (OS X 10.7) or Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8) or Mavericks (OS X 10.9) or Yosemite (OS X 10.10) or El Capitan (OS X 10.11).
To use the FTP protocol, you first need to enable it on your Mac by going into the Terminal and typing this command:
sudo -s launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ftp.plist
After enabling FTP via the Terminal, go into the Sharing system preference. Enable File Sharing in the left margin. Add the shared folder where you want the scans to end up. We usually like to create a folder on the Desktop entitled "Canon Scans", so you can just drag this folder into the list of folders. Click on the "Options" button to make sure that AFP is enabled, but you do NOT need to enable SMB.
Now you can go into the Network system preference where you will need to manually assign a static IP address for your machine. The Canon ImageRunner will need this static IP address so that it can find your Mac.
Once you've done all of the above, you can now create a new "one touch entry" on the Canon ImageRunner printer to scan to the shared folder on the Mac.
To do this, click on the physical button on the copier that says "Additional Functions", then press "Address Book Settings".
Then, on the Canon ImageRunner screen, press "One Touch Buttons".
On the next screen, press an existing name to edit it, or press a numbered button to edit a new name. (You can scroll through the pages with the arrows on the right.) You must press the "Register/Edit" button to add or edit that button.
If you're adding a new button, then on the next screen, you'll have to press "File".
Then you'll be taken to the next screen. The information to type in is the following:
Name: Give the button a name
One-touch Button Name: Give the button a short name that will fit on a button.
Protocol: FTP
Host Name: The static IP address that you assigned to the Mac. Do NOT use any special characters or slashes... just enter the IP address.
Folder Path: shared folder name. The trick to this is that you have to give the path from the starting point of the home folder. So if the shared folder is named "Canon Scans" and it sits on the desktop, then type in this file path: "Desktop/Canon Scans" (without the quotes).
User: the full account name of the account which owns the shared folder.
Password: the password for the account which owns the shared folder.
And that's it! You are now all set to scan from your Canon ImageRunner to your Mac!

Scanjet G2710 on XP sp3. After full install, only driver is installed. No error messages. Uninstall offers only driver uninstall, no sofware.

First install the required drivers for the HP Scanjet G2710 Flatbed Scanner.
Simple way is to scan is use PICASA

GOTO http://picasa.google.com/
Download picasa 3.8
  1. Make sure everything is connected and turned on!
  2. Put the photo on the glass of the scanner - face down
  3. In Picasa, click 'Import'
  4. Click the arrow for the drop down list of devices. You should see your scanner listed ... select it
  5. Now you will see a screen that depends on your scanner. There should be an option to 'Preview'. Click that.
  6. You should now see your picture, there may be some settings you want to change here, but if it looks OK then
  7. Click the button to Scan
  8. When it's done scanning, you're back at the standard Picasa Import screen. Click Import all.
  9. Select a folder to put it in. I made a folder called 'Old Photos' for the first one, then, for each subsequent scanned photo, I selected that existing folder from the drop-down list.

Setup scan to pc function

Find the scanner on the network... you can use a tool like Advanced IP Scanner to search the subnet and then just hunt down the IP that belongs to the device -- it may not have a name registered.  Visit each potential IP via browser (http://192.168.1.50), one will show you the Kyocera web page.  The device has two, one for printer, one for scanner.. each one on its own IP....
That's how far I've got with mine - i was hoping it supports SMB scanning, but it may not.  So now I am looking for the rest of the setup.

Currently working on XEROX WorkCentre Pro 55. Want to scan documents to my computer from newwork printer. What do I need to set up in order to utilize this feature. I tried scanning to a programed user...

> Support & Drivers > WorkCentre Pro 55 Support > Search Results Solution: Set up Network Scanning Using Server Message Block (SMB) Filing With CentreWare Network Scanning Software v 5.5x bttn_print.gifMake Printable bttn_email.gifEmail this page elem_1_spacer.gif Prerequisites:
  • The printer must be connected to the network.
  • The IP Address of the printer is required, and the HTTP option must be enabled on the printer. If you do not know the IP Address, or whether HTTP is enabled, print a Configuration Report. See the Related Items below for additional information. If you do not have this information or the printer is not configured correctly, contact your System Administrator for assistance.
  • A user account for the scanner to login to the scan server must be created (account needs full control access rights). The user needs to be a local user on the workstation and not a domain user.

NOTE: SMB uses local rights and not domain rights. Record the username and password for future use.

  • A directory to be used as a repository for the scanned files must be created. The directory must then be shared.
  • The Hostname of the workstation must be known.
  • CentreWare 5.5x must be installed on a Microsoft Windows server or workstation on the network.
From the workstation or server where CentreWare is installed:
  1. Click on [Start], point to [Programs], select [Xerox CentreWare], and then select [Add Network Scanner]. The Add Network Scanner Wizard window will be displayed.
  2. Click on the [Enable a new Xerox System Scanner for network scanning and associate it with a scan server] radio button, and then click [Next].
  3. Select [Specific IP Address] from the Find Devices pull-down menu and continue with step 4, or select [Specific TCP/IP Hostname] and skip to step 5.
  4. If Specific IP Address is selected, an IP Address field will be displayed. Enter the IP Address of the printer in the field, click [Next], and then skip to step 7.
  5. If Specific TCP/IP Hostname is selected, a Hostname field will be displayed. Enter the printer’s TCP/IP hostname in the field, and then click [Next].

NOTE: Select Specific TCP/IP Hostname if the Printer is using DHCP to resolve the IP Address and has a Hostname assigned.

  6. If the printer has been configured for Scan to File, a window will be displayed with a 'This device has already been configured for network scanning. Continuing will overwrite its current configuration. Do you want to continue?' message. Click on [Yes].
  7. The Enter Password window will be displayed. Enter your system password in the field provided, and then click [OK]. The Server Type (Filing Protocol) window will be displayed.

NOTE: The initial system password at machine install is 1111. If the administrator encounters a problem with changing the password, or forgets the password, a service call must be placed.

  8. From the Server Type (Filing Protocol) pull-down menu, select [Windows (SMB)].
  9. Click on the [Browse] button located below the Location (\\Server\ShareName\Path) field. The Choose Location – Windows (SMB) window will be displayed.
  10. Browse to the server and then to the Scan folder where the CentreWare scanning folders will be installed, and click [OK]. The Location field will be displayed with the scan server name and the path to the shared scan folder.
  11. Click [Next]. The Xerox System Login Name window will be displayed.
  12. Enter the scan user name and password (this is the user account the printer will use to login to the server share) in the fields provided, and then click [Next]. The Distribution Server window will be displayed.
  13. Do not make any changes. Click [Next].
  14. Click on [Manage User Templates]. The Manage User Templates window will be displayed.
  15. Click on [Modify Template List] to begin selecting template users for this scan server installation. The Modify Template List window will be displayed.
  16. Make a selection from the list of Users and Groups, and then click on [Add] to create a scan folder and template for the selected user or all members of a selected group. If necessary, repeat this step to add additional users or groups.
  17. When you have finished, click [OK] twice. The Finish window will be displayed.
  18. Click on [Finish] to upload the scan settings to the printer. The Add Network Scanner Wizard window will close when the settings have been uploaded.

Scannen c5180 by ethernet

Have you tried connecting to your printer through the EWS (a direct connection using the printer's IP address). If you manually set up the IP to say 192.168.1.205 , then you would go to your browser and type http://192.168.1.205 which would then bring up the EWS page. This gives some general information for setup & basic testing including scanning. My C5180 has the same networked issue, a port scan reveals loss of connection on UDP.
The C5180 appears to use UDP: 161-SNMP,137-Netbios,427 Server Location.TCP: 21-File Transfer,80-www HTTP,139-Netbios Session service,9100-HP JetDirect card,9500 ISM Server.

Turn on file and printer sharing for microsoft networks. Find it in network connections. Right click your connection, then select properties. You must also provide at least one file or folder to share before anything will be seen on the networked pc's.
