Question about Panasonic NV-FJ620 VHS/S-VHS playback VCR

2 Answers

Reception quality Hello I regular move my VCR from the lounge to the bedroom and have been doing this without problem for years. Yesterday I noticed that when I recorded the quality was poor (first time ever). So I thought maybe it was the antenna and tested it with others. The external leads are fine in the tv to wall but when I go through the VCR now I have some snow. I can still view Ch9 reasonably well but the others are quite poor now. This is for both viewing tv and recording via the VCR. Does this mean something inside the VCR is lose and I now have to take it to a technician? thanks Ann

Re: Reception quality

Dear Annie, First check your signal sources. Is the picture clear when you connect the cable from the wall socket directly to the TV? No? Then replace the cable connecting the wall socket of the Antenna to the TV. Next, if picture is clear, then something is wrong in the VCR. Check the rear of the VCR.There is generally a Signal attenuator switch. (Hi/Lo) Change it's setting to High.Try recording and playback again. Is your problem cured? No? Then itis possible that the RF box in the VCR has gone faulty. Do you really want to spend some money on this? U decide.

Re: Reception quality

First you have to check if the problem get solve by conecting the supply sourges(cable dish or ant.) direct to the tv..if the problem get solve then try cleaning the vcr head with a liquid use head cleaner becouse a littel snow means that the problem is a littel dirty head or a broken one..also there is a chance to a mayor problen and in that case yes you have to take it to a tech...good luck if the problem persist when you conect the sourge direc to the tv then check the terminal conector if ist ok then notify you sservices company for the problem..

Why did my panasonic PV-9450 eat a a tape?

Hi Melanie -

First, you should keep away from the T-160 tapes as they are thinner and more likely to jam. The T-120 or less sizes are better. Next, use high quality name brand tape - not the off-brands found in the bargain bin.

Do the regular maintenance. All tape is "dirty" (including cassette, 8 track, reel to reel, etc.) and will deposit dirt on the tape heads and "transport" mechanism. Transport consists of capstan and pinch rollers that push / pull the tape in and out of the housing. when dirty, they slip and interfere with the "pick up" of a quality picture from the tape. Use of a quality wet cleaning system at regular intervals (or whenever picture quality deteriorates or tapes jam) is highly recommended. Here are some googled results for wet VHS cleaning systems:

Good luck!

I have a vcr w512. Is there a way to set time on

Probably not. You should try and look for a replacement remote. If too expensive go for a good quality universal one.

NEW Samsung LEd TV does not recognized older Toshiba VCR in sourc

Hello callkaren2,
Electronics are so much fun arent they?
The TV does not need to recognize the VCR at all. All it is looking for is a plain Composite video signal from any device - VCR or DVD.
If you are just playing a tape and not using the VCR as a Tuner, then it doesnt matter if the VCR is on Chl 3 or 4.

Do this - play a tape, test the Yellow connector to a regular TV to verify the signal is coming down the cable. Then, try it again on another Video/Yellow input on your LED unit. Have a great day!

Congratulations on getting nine years of service from your vcr, that is excellent.
Now lets see if we can get a few more.
Click on this link to go to step by step instructions for a manual cleaning of the heads.

This should get you going again.
Please rate this solution, the only compensation I receive is a good rating from you.

Hello alhertel,

The old idler wheel has been replaced with gears (cheaper and last longer then the old rubber wheel). What you need to do is to gain access to the loader motor and turn it until the carriage begins to move, once the carriage gets to the top and moves outward you should be able to eject the tape with no problem.

Believe it or not VCRs are throw away technology, since it costs as much to repair one as it does to buy a new one. However, there are a lot of people who still hold on to their VCRs.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

VHS Tape on Sanyo Doesn't play on other VCR's

the heads on the sanyo vcr may slightly be out of alignment from years of use.when playing a recorded tape from this vcr to another, the other vcr's alignment maybe right on track thus causing the poor can possibly try cleaning the heads with a head cleaner or a high grade blank tape, but i don't think this will solve the problem. but you can try.
good luck
p.s also try higher quality tapes to record on.

VCR says safe

Hello. Have you tried unplugging the power from the VCR for more than 24hrs? This may resolve the "safe-mode" feature going back to "default" and permit regular use after this amount of time elapses. That is kind of unusual for the stepping upon the remote to cause this?
