I have a 2009 lawnboy walk behind mower with the B/S engine model # 124T05. The problem is, it starts easliy and the stops after about 2 seconds, but if I hold the choke closed 95% it keeps running like a champ, Any ideas?

SOURCE: Lawnboy model 10640 walk-behind mower

I have the exact same problem. I read on another site that the blowout hole in the back of the mower where the grass goes into the catcher must be cleared of any grass or dirt. I don't use the grass catcher and indeed the hole was full of dirt and grass. I cleared out what I could with my hands and a screwdriver, and magically somehow the cord retracted about a foot. Enough to start the mower with. It still doesn't retract all the way, but it was an improvement. I may have worn out the spring pulling and tugging on it trying to get it to retract, but ok for now.
Please share if you find a more permanent solution. Mower is barely a year old.

Oil mixture for 1985f series 2 cycle lawn-boy mower

Contact your dealer ! but 32:1 sounds correct. 8 ounces of Lawnboy oil to two gallons of gasoline ....is 32:1, 8 ounces of oil to one gallon of fuel is 16:1 for the real old lawnboys,
When Toro bought out OMC,and started using Tecumseh mowers, the ratio changed in the late 80's or early nineties ! IIRC :o)

clogged fuel line. the choke restricts air flow if it runs fine choked it is probably getting too much air to run properly. those 2 seconds it is most likely running off a surplus of fuel from priming or something of that sort.

Check fuel lines and fuel filter for obstructions. I reccomend replacing fuel filter also. If this does not help is may be a fuel issue in the carburetor.

I have a 1987 commercial lawnboy walk behind mower that has stopped running. I gradually lost power over the summer and now it will not start. I have installed a new plug and filter earlier in the spring....

I would try and remove carb and clean it thuroughly. You can soak the parts in solvent or equivelant. The carb would be right after the air filter tube to the intake of engine.

What is the 2 cycle oil to gas mixture for a 2 cycle lawnboy

20:1 gas to oil is a good place to start. Some mowers thin down to 80:1. If you can tell me the model of the mower I can be more specific, but starting at 20:1 will assure you have adequate protection for the engine. If it's exhausting lots of oil smoke after it has warmed up; you can cut back a little each time until you have minor oil smoke.

at 20:1 you need to add 6.4 ounces of oil to one gallon of gas.

Here's a nifty calculator for various ratios:

http://www.csgnetwork.com/oilfuelcalc.html

Enter 1 gallon of gas, then change the ratio number and then press calculate and the number of ounces per gallon will be displayed.
