Question about IBM Wheelwriter 30 Typewriter

1 Answer

Brother CE-70 typewriter. Was typing perfectly well. Over about 15 characters the impact on the print head reduced to nil. Although printhead appears to strike the daisy wheel the character does not strike the ribon. No print on the paper or impression on ribon. Approx 25% of ribon used.

It appears that the typewriter is not striking the wheel--therefore, not typing any letters

Make sure that the ribbon is moving. If characters are piling up in the same spot on the ribbon you will get this problem. Easiest fix is to replace the ribbon. Many brand new ribbons can have a problem. If this dosent solve the problem it may be a mechanical problem with the mechanism that drives the ribbon, requiring a technician to repair.

Make sure that you loaded a correct printhead for the typewriter. If it is correct, is the print head loaded correctly?

I have an external memory unit for the CE-70 [great machine; I ran my small business with four of them yrs back]. The unit is called a Brother MD-200 and I actually have some old diskettes for it. It plugs directly into the typewriter and gets its power from the CE-70. Is it worth something to you?
