But I had to re-install AdSubtract Pro after a complete Windows wipe. Now there is no Activation Webpage for AdSUbtract Pro and the "trial period" has expired. I have checked the registry keys against those in my laptop where AdSubtract Pro is still running OK (activated many months ago), but I cannot see which key has been changed by activation.

Now Trend Micro added antispyware product into antivirus product with name Trend Micro AntiVirus plus AntiSpyware 2009.
Is there any problem to uninstall it from add/remove program? If yes then there are one more way: Logon in safe mode & delete spamsubtract or Intermute folder from program files then Use a registry cleaner to delete any registry entries left behind after you have deleted the Spam Subtract program.
From IE toolbar, click tools, internet options. Then click the connections tab. Click lan settings button. uncheck the radio box that says Use a proxy server.
IE will work again, but with no adsubtract. A possible reason the fix didn't immediately work for you is that the dns cache needed to be flushed. accomplish this by clicking start, run, cmd.
in the black box, type ipconfig /flushdns
then press enter.
adsubtract "phones home" everytime it is started. it looks to intermute.com which then refers to store.trendmicro.com (the purchaser of intermute). trendmicro recently changed their website to disable adsubtract (either wittingly or unwittingly)
Here is how to fix:
1) first find your hosts file. it is usually located in C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
the file is "hosts" and it has no file extension.
2) open the hosts file with notepad.
3) add the following line to the bottom: 127.0.0.1 store.trendmicro.com
Adsubtract will work once again if you follow these instructions, but you will no longer be able to visit the website "store.trendmicro.com" unless you change your hosts file back the way it was.

We didn't have the IMDATUpd.exe in the directory, so we couldn't run it to update the application. The fix for this is to download the new version and run the installer. Make sure you enter the same email address that you used to register. This should solve your problem, it solved ours.
