AdSubtract Pro - Activate after re-installation

InterMute have recently withdrawn the AdSubtract Pro webpages. This caused the problem reported and SOLVED here:
http://www.fixya.com/support/t1121802-adsubtract_pro

But I had to re-install AdSubtract Pro after a complete Windows wipe. Now there is no Activation Webpage for AdSUbtract Pro and the "trial period" has expired. I have checked the registry keys against those in my laptop where AdSubtract Pro is still running OK (activated many months ago), but I cannot see which key has been changed by activation.

Any ideas?

I should have said that TrendMicro have withdrawn the InterMute webpages for Adsubtract Pro.

I did telephone TrendMicro about this problem a few days ago, but the HelpDesk had never even heard of AdSubtract Pro!! Well, I suppose it is some years since they last sold it, but it does appear still be in use around the world.

Since my earlier posting, I have uninstalled and re-installed (no effect), and uninstalled, wiped all Intermute files and deleted all registry entries for Intermute and AdSubtract, and then re-installed - but to no effect - still locked at "Trial Expired".

    Thanks, Clif4949, for the suggestion.

However, I do not have any peer-to-peer software on either of my computers and have never used such software or used a key generator. So I have no idea how to make use of your suggestion.

I do have AdSubtract Pro running on my laptop and it was activated with my main e-mail address, exactly as my desktop previously was. So there must be a key somewhere on my laptop, if I knew where to look. But maybe that's what emule would do for me??

  • EdiburghFixr Oct 24, 2008

Thanks - I saw that emule was a file-sharing program, though I have never used one.

If the "keygen" modifies the registry, why cannot I make the same modification manually?

Have emule or similar?

this is a key generator. Linking to it is legal, downloading might not be. I'm not sure. Anyway here's the link:

clarification: emule is a file sharing program

  • Clif4949 Oct 24, 2008

the "keygen" doesn't spit out keys as the name suggests. It makes the necessary registry modifications.

Crash

When firefox crashes, it creates a report that explains the crash and possible causes. If your firefox can open the point where you can enter addresses, you could type - [about:crashes] to access these reports. pick the report that is similar to your crash and you can send it to Mozilla Firefox for clarification.
However a series of known issues could be causing your browser to crash; For example, if you have old version of the Google tollbar installed in your firefox broser, it could be the cause behind the crash. Also, if you have the vlc media player plugin installed, your browser might crash when you try to play videos that would play with Windows Media player by default. In addition, if you have Yahoo Messenger installed, trying to aces yahoomail could cause the broswer to crash. And the list goes on. So the thing you could do is try and remember what plugins you could have installed or updated, what software you installed prior to your firefox crashing and uninstall them, or even simply disable them for a bit. In addition, check and make sure your Anti-Virus is really up-to-date and that A full scan happened most recently. Malwares are prone to causing random computer behaviour

SpanSubtract Pro Retired???

Yes u r right, Now this product is no longer available.

Now Trend Micro added antispyware product into antivirus product with name Trend Micro AntiVirus plus AntiSpyware 2009.

Is there any problem to uninstall it from add/remove program?
If yes then there are one more way: Logon in safe mode & delete spamsubtract or
Intermute folder from program files then Use a registry cleaner to delete any registry entries left behind after you have deleted the Spam Subtract program.

Regcleaner (http://www.worldstart.com/weekly-download/archives/reg-cleaner4.3.htm)

or

easycleaner (http://www.majorgeeks.com/EasyCleaner_d414.html).

PLZ GIVE RATING BY CLICK YES OR NO.

Intermute recurring pop up

click run
msconfig
click startup at the top
look for IMStart C:/PROGRA~1/INTER...INTER Startup
Uncheck this
Push OK
Restart computer
When it restarts you will get a pop up telling you that you have been in the start up menu.
put a check in the spot for one and close or it will continue to pop up when you restart your computer

Next go to C
then programs
Look for the file for Intermute
Delete it
empty your recycle bin and empty that
Restart
It worked for me but it's a nasty one to get rid of.
I'm not a tech but I'm real good at using Google to fix my own problems
Now I just did fix that problem after 2 days and hopefully it's not one of those that hides in the bowels of the computer and comes back

Buffer overrun in adsubtract pro

From IE toolbar, click tools, internet options. Then click the connections tab. Click lan settings button. uncheck the radio box that says Use a proxy server.

IE will work again, but with no adsubtract. A possible reason the fix didn't immediately work for you is that the dns cache needed to be flushed. accomplish this by clicking start, run, cmd.
in the black box, type ipconfig /flushdns
then press enter.

AdSubtract Pro

adsubtract "phones home" everytime it is started. it looks to intermute.com which then refers to store.trendmicro.com (the purchaser of intermute). trendmicro recently changed their website to disable adsubtract (either wittingly or unwittingly)

Here is how to fix:
1) first find your hosts file. it is usually located in C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
the file is "hosts" and it has no file extension.
2) open the hosts file with notepad.
3) add the following line to the bottom: 127.0.0.1 store.trendmicro.com

Adsubtract will work once again if you follow these instructions, but you will no longer be able to visit the website "store.trendmicro.com" unless you change your hosts file back the way it was.

We didn't have the IMDATUpd.exe in the directory, so we couldn't run it to update the application. The fix for this is to download the new version and run the installer. Make sure you enter the same email address that you used to register. This should solve your problem, it solved ours.
