I also had this problem, the on switch (a momentary normally open switch) was broke, i took it apart, replaced it with a Momentary N/O switch from radio shack and now it works fine aside from having a abnormally large on button

Re: coby mp3 player
The problem lies with the battery. If you are within the 90-day warranty, the unit can be replaced. If you are out of the 90-day warranty, contact the manufacturer for a replacement battery. Keep in mind, to replace the battery, if you are handy you can do it yourself with a soldering gun. If not, take it to your local repair facility. It should not take more then 5 minutes to replace the battery. The cost for a battery is a $6.00 Money Order. Contact Coby Consumer Care / Technical Support

These players are plagued with problems! I have the 2gb version which does the same thing. I gave up on trying to use its internal battery and bought a usb charging cord for use in my car. I just unplug the cord from the cig lighter socket when I'm done using it. If it doesn't shut off, which is 99.9 percent of the time, then it just runs its battery down until it finally shuts off. It's a shame this player doesn't work as good as it looks...
I bought a Coby mp-c7095 and could not get it to turnon. I charged the battery for more then 24 hours and it still would not turnon.
The problem was easily fixed. The red battery wire was pinched during assembly and shorted to the back cover. I put a small piece of tape over the bare wire and carefully reassembled the unit. Now it works great!
