Sanyo AVM 3689G that went dead or "black screen" that you gave me advice on July 28th. I had a TV service tech come over and two younger techs showed up, neither of them looked comfortable with this model. One even admitted that he usually doesn't work on these types of TV's. Anyway, they checked the fuse on the main power supply which checked out ok. They visually checked some of the capacitors which they said "looked good". Then they said that the main power supply board is bad which will cost several hundred dollars to fix. Is this legitmate or did I get hosed. The only item they tested with a meter was the fuse, nothing else. Can you determine the problem without testing components? Help!

- Thanks for the advice! Seems like calling a tech to come look at anything anymore is a crap shoot. The tv was givin to us a couple of years ago so in my opinion it's time to go shopping. Thanks for the advice!
Not unless you have a magic wand!!!lolol This happens alot when a service man goes out to the house as they are told not to do many repairs in the home cause theres no money in it . If the set is over 3 to 5 years old it might not be such a stupid idea of looking into another set. Good Luck
You can find out if it's the flyback by desoldering the number one pin on the flyback it should power up or take the H.O.T out of circ. I would have to look at the schematic to tell you for sure.
Dear Bunes, Yep, looks like u have been hosed. But the best solution i can still think of is to get another Tech professional to have a look. These 2 guys did not know what they were doing. And, honestly, SMPS (the type of Power supply normally found in solid state TVs) are fairly simple to repair. But again, it need not be a Power supply problem! It could be that the Horizontal output transistor is short circuited, or also the FBT. Again I advise that you get a proper person to have a look before you think in terms of discarding the set.
