Need help recovering from a Steel Vine software mistake

I have a 2TB Cavalry HD (CADA002SA2) that had 2TB of data on it. I bought an additional 2TB Cavalry drive for growth. When I connected it to my PC, the PC only recognized it as a 1TB drive. Since the packaging was all labeled 2TB, I assumed it was a configuration issue. I loaded the Steel Vine software and ran it. I saw the new drive (or so I thought), highlighted it and selected "jbod". This is how my existing drive was configured, so I was trying to match it with the new drive. The software warned me that this could destroy all the data on the drive, but since I thought the drive was new (and empty) I thought that was fine and clicked ok. A minute or 2 later I noticed the EXISTING drive's lights were flashing and pressed "cancel". It was about 75% finished. Now my PC can't even read the drive at all. I fear my data is lost, but am praying there is some way to recover it. Can anyone help?

Well..maybe, and that is a major maybe..sometimes, with really good tools, some of that can be recovered, like when a hard drive crashes. assuming there was no other backup, this is problematic. I recommend you seek a really top flight computer person. This will cost a bundle though.

Windows 7 doesnt recognize external hard drive


In my opinion either the dive is bad or the power supply is bad. A bad power supply can be fixed by getting a new case, $20 on Amazon, Ebay, etc. Data on a bad drive may be recovered by using specialized software. I used DiskInternals(.com) "UnEraser" successfully to recover data from a disk that would not mount.

Solid red light. Does not show up on my computer.


Dose it show up as drive letter E:/ underdevice manager in disk drives?(Check out:right clicking my computer icon onyour desktop,select disk manager)
If so,try right clicking on my computer and selecting map network drive.(You'llget the same results by right clicking on network neighborhood icon on yourdesktop and selecting map network drive.)This is the method many people use toassign a drive name (i.e.,letter) to a drive.
How about asking you to format it before you can use it?Then you can recover data from hard drive with datarecovery software like Tenorshare Data Recovery.It can recover data afterdeeply scanning your hard drive to look for lost data.

My Cavalry 1TB hard drive stopped working the 3rd day after i bought it. It powers on, you can hear it working, but the computer won't recognize it. I can't initialize it through Diskpart or Disk...


The HDD is probably in working condition, however the enclosure may be damaged. You can remove the hdd inside the cavalry storage enclosure, and if you have a desktop install it in the desktop to get your data off of it. You may instead wish to purchase a new hdd enclosure which can be bought online from many websites such as http://ncix.com or newegg.com

You may need to try some photo recovery software to rescue the pictures, here are some for your option. You may not recover all the pictures, but will recover most of them.

Note: Before your files are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the SD card in case the original lost files are overwritten.

I was using my harddisk for more than 2.5 years and suddenly from yesterday......when i try to access it through my computer it says format the disk...i dont know what happened suddenly.....and the blue...


do not format.....do not chkdsk....

get some data recovery software and install it in other computer with second harddrive

then run the software and recover the data in it

Ok Etfactor,

I haven't had my hands on this particular model before so I had to do a little research. If The drive was setup as the Mirrored RAID option(only 1TB of useable space) then there is a simple DIY option I can help you with but it will void your warranty.

If it was setup, as you implied, as a 2TB stripe set, then there is no simple method to recover the drive array and it will recover considerable help from a data recovery pro. The reason it is so much more difficult is that in a stripe blocks of data are divided even bytes/odd bytes between the two drives. This provides exceptional performance but at double the risk of failure, and more than twice the trouble to recover.

If you can verify which config you were using, I can provide appropriate next steps for you. If it was set up as a 2TB stripe, also provide me with your region and city info and I will recommend an appropriate facility to assist you.
