I need to renew my ps3 BD encryption key to watch blue ray movie

Some newer blu ray discs require that your system be updated to view the movie. This is due to a security "encryption" set by various movie companies. (they are trying to prevent people from copying their movies).
If your PS3 is connected to the internet this should be done automatically when trying to view the movie.
hope it helps
~good luck!

I have had my ps3 80gb for a couple of years now but have never tried to play a blueray disc untill today. An on screen message states that I must renew the encryption key. Perform a system software update...

You will not be able to play some newer disc because of the technology embedded in them. The updates allow for those necessary files to be implemented into your system giving it the ability to play games and blu rays. Get your system updated.

Download the firmware from the playstation official website onto a usb

stick. Follow the instructions on the website at: www.playstation.com (the update will be at the bottom of the page, on the right side.)

Cant play blue ray movie. wants to system update. how does this work

Hello,

There are some firmwares that support playing movies on the game, if the files are not complete, then the ps3 will not be able to play any movie, and some times it might affect game discs as well.

So when next your playstation 3 wants to system update, allow it, so it will automatically restore the files that are necessary to play a blue ray disc.

Systems update is done online, so you must have an internet connection either wireless or by connection for the playstation, and if it pops up the system update message next time, allow it. It will install new firmwares for the playstation 3 and you will be able to enjoy better services on the game.

Take care and good luck
Hope this was helpful

The PS3 will not play the new (BD) dvd I just hired .And i have never had this problem befor. Its askin me to renew my encryption key and says something about system software up date. I am not connected to...

All Blue Ray players need to be updated from time to time to keep up with the growing technology of Blue Ray. PS3 is the same way. It is asking you to update your PS3 in order to play the disc. On the back of the PS3 is a Ethernet port (looks like an over sized phone jack) connect this to your internet (modem) and it will update your encryption key and software needed to play Blue Ray discs. Here is a link for that as well.

I got the 250g PS3 for my son for Christmas. Works great with Games, DVDs, etc. But, it will not play a Blue-Ray Disc. It keeps going back to (no source) after I insert it everytime! I am running an HDMI...

Well the most typical problem for something like this is that the Blu-ray software is either disabled on the Playstation console OR you need to update your Blu-ray software by allowing the Playstation to connect to an internet source

This will show you some general set-up settings to use :

This link literally in the first 30 seconds shows you how to allow your PS3 system to update the blu-ray player itself :

My playstation just tells me that i need to update my software to play blue ray and i dont know what software to place in there

1 Hope your play station is connected to internet either by ethernet cable or with wireless. 2 You can update by downloading the update data from the internet. The latest update is automatically downloaded Select Settings, then select system update, select update by internet OR You can update using data saved on USB or flash drive Select settings, then system update, and then update by storage media OR Up date data may also be contained in some game disc or other types of disc media which when played will guide you through the process

My playstation 3 keeps freezing on blue ray dvd movies

The disc may have been scratched, damaged or otherwise manufactured improperly. Try another blu-ray. If it works, there is something wrong with the disc you are trying.

It may also be your firmware version. You should update your firmware to the latest version.

Otherwise your lens may be damaged; you might have to send the unit in for repair.
