SOURCE: No PS/2 Ports on new PC only USB ports. Need to make work with USB connectivity.
I have a P/S 2 port to USB adapter that I got with a microsoft natural keyboard once. So I know they make them. Here are a few you can get.

SOURCE: Cannot Get Symbol m2004-i290 cyclone to work with Beetle /M
Hi, the link in this otherwise excellent article is dead - Symbol appear to have been absorbed by Motorola and you can't get a direct link from their site. To get to the reference guide, go to http://support.symbol.com, wait for the re-direct to Motorola, then look under 'Products' for Barcode Scanners. Click that and type "M2000" in the 'Describe your problem' field. First result should be the Product Reference Guide.
SOURCE: symbol M2004 scanner scans bar code using
I know this is an old thread but it may be useful to someone.
Model: Symbol M2004-I111 cyclone.
Look up no."73-39696-111" for a pdf of programming instructions.
The large jack plug goes to a security tag demagnetiser. Though mine has only two wires, a black and a red. Scanner works with nothing connected to this end. I think pressing the button on the top of the scanner sends a pulse to the demag. to disable the security tag.
The scanner needs a powered com port to work. Usually only on purpose built till machines not ordinary pc ports.
Good luck i have not been able to figure out the complexities of getting it to do what I want yet (no read all code!).

Try re-installing the barcode scanner drivers.
