Question about ION Audio iTTUSB Turntable

Annoying crunching sound devleloped during recording

I've been using my Ion ITTUSB for a couple of years now, and for the past 10 months have been ripping a large collection of my vinyls to a hard drive. I have got the turntable connected via usb, as the product was intended for use. Over the past month or so, however, I have been having problems with recording. Basically, when recording (I have the option in Audacity to listen while I record) I get a very annoying crunching sound which is obviously more noticable when a beat is playing or whatever, it's almost as if the record is skipping (which it isn't, I'm fairly sure). I have tried changing the usb lead, the usb port into which the device is plugged, the stylus (twice). I've even swapped the slipmats just in case it was a static issue! The records are scrupulously cleaned before recording so it isn't dirt on the record (and I've recorded a few less clean ones and not had this problem, even ones that where scratched wheren't doing this). I've ordered some new styluses of the internet, just in case the replacements I was using wheren't good enough, but wondered if anyone has a clue what could be the problem?

I'm running XP, and using Audacity 1.2.6.

I get the feeling it is an issue with sending the info from the stylus to the computer, rather than a problem with the vinyls. So can anyone help?!!!

Same here. However, it appears to be totally random. I can record two or three LP's with no problem and then it affects every track thereafter. I wonder if it's a static build up as the records are cleaned and so is the stylus. I even use canned air to blow away any dust. If I stop recording, switch it off and go back after a couple of hours the problem goes away (usually) and I can record the album that I was previously having problems with, okay.
I think the problem is an electrical one - I don't remember having all these dust/noise/interference issues when all I had was a vinyl collection.
    Any ideas?

As stated, the vinyls are scrupuously cleaned before use, it is more like an electrical issue, as AndyStan has mentioned in his reply. Thanks for your help though.

It sounds like the same problem I had. I solved it by keeping the stylus free of dust by brushing it frequently with a soft camel hair brush..

I am not sure what computer system or operating system you are using. If you are using a PC with MS Windows try to go to the control panel from the start tab. Double click on the sounds and audio devices icon. Click on Advanced in the master volume box. If any mute boxes are checked, uncheck them and move the volume to the top. Try your system to see if you have any output. I hope this helps since I did not see any recommendations to check the master volume mixer.

Will not record to a usb thumb drive or a sd card

Should it? I interpret the need for Audacity or EZVinyl software to mean there's a PC involved somewhere to do the actual number crunching.

ION iTTUSB turntable has buzzing sound when I record

It sounds like you have a bad ground on the tone arm. It's probably time to replace the tone arm wiring, or the external connecting cables.

I want to know how to operate iTTUSB.

I think it's plug and play. Plug the record player in the usb slot, let your computer find it, turn on your recording program, drop the needle on the record.

the turntable has a built-in phono preamp so you don't want to run it through phono inputs in your receiver but just regular auxiliary inputs instead
