The most likely problem is not with the drum unit but rather with the developer unit and there is a leakage current within the unit causing the 'ghosting' on the printed images.

I would suggest that you replace the developer unit within the system. It is quite possible that the waste toner blade is contaminated with debris from using non-OEM toner within the unit. Therefore leaving residual toner particles on the surface of the drum.

Try this solution and see if that corrects your problem. This solution can be applied to virtually any laser printer, copier or MFP device in the industry. The problem is nearly 99% of the time related to CHEAP toner cartridges that are refilled or refurbished and the company doing the work does NOT replace the cleaning blades within the units, and they use a generic polyester-resin toner that does not conform to manufacturer standards.

I worked as a Design Engineer for Kyocera-Mita America for nearly 6 years and have seen this problem many times in the industry. The price you save on using recycled cartridges ends up costing you more when you have to replace a developer or drum unit.

Hope this information helps you out.

Cheers,

Keith

I have a Brother MFC-7340 and recently replace the toner and now the background is dirty looking when I print, ie grey where it should be white! What can I do to clean it up? Thanks!!

Either you purchased a a bad quality remanufactured toner cartridge or your fuser film is damaged.

If there is some kind of debris in black color that is on printouts, your fuser film might be damaged. Have a printer technician replace it.

If there is no debris, only bad quality printouts, it's the toner cartridge that needs replacement.

I have hp color lazer printer .. i need solution for the background ( dirty print)

Dots, Lines and smudges on the printouts are due to deteriorating cartridges and cleaning the green drum of the cartridge may help temporarily. Take out the cartridge and gently clean the roller/ green drum with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth wiping off the toner dots marks/ lines.
Also, make sure that the visible inside of the printer is clean and ther is no spilled toner inside, which sometimes results in dots.
Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.

GoodLuck!
Dont forget to appreciate the solution if I could have been of any help!

Changed the drum a few months back . . . just cleaned the wire again . . . page has never cleaned up, not even after initial change of drum . . . prints a really dirty background

if your using recycled cartridges and drums i would suggest speaking to the company you got the drum from incase its faulty.

failing that i would suggest changing the toner cartridge as well as this tends to solve the problem when we experience it with printers at our office.

I am getting a grey, dusty looking background on all the printouts... any ideas? We just put a brand new toner cartridge in about a week ago and has been fine until today.

Is it a genuine toner? Usually this is caused either by a spill, or by the use of refilled toner cartridges. The only really sound test is to get a new, or known good cartridge and test it with that. If its still dirty then the printer needs maintenance/cleaning by an engineer.

Gray background

Hi,

if you have a laser printer you may need to clean the printer or install a new drum cartridge, if it is ink-jet you will have to clean the bottom of the ink cradle it sound like you getting grey background from a toner/drum cartridge.

good Luck

Let em know if this helps.

Toner bubbles are characterized by large blotches of color toner on
printed pages caused by color toner leaking from cartridges directly
onto the transfer drum. Solve the problem of toner bubbles by checking the manufacturing codes on the toner cartridges and replacing cartridges as needed. Compatible carts are notorious for this so don't use them.

Heat-stamped on the toner cartridge, opposite the label-end of the
cartridge, is a manufacturing code. If a portion of the code does not
match the list below, replace the toner cartridge.
Use toner cartridges that contain any of the following manufacturing
codes:
 9I
 9J
 9K
 9L
any cartridge that begins with the numbers 0 through 6 in place of
the 9

Laser Printer Cleaning

Does the dirty background get lighter as you print additional pages? Have you tried a new cartridge yet? Unless your toner cartridge is leaking toner (you?ll see toner on the inside of the printer or leaking out if you remove the cartridge and shake) a simple cleaning is probably not the answer. Let me know and we'll pick up later.
