Question about Rio Carbon MP3 Player

1 Answer

Battery issues Have had my Carbon for approximately one year. All of a sudden it it lost all of its charge and will not recharge when placed on the charger. Is the internal battery finished already? I only use it about twice a week and charge it when almost completely drained. Rio is of no use whatsoever. They won't provide any information until you send money. Any help would would be greatly appreciated.

You may have tried this: Try resetting while it is plugged in (use a pin in the reset hole to the left of the headphone jack). I'm not a big fan of sticking metal pins into objects contected to a power supply, so be careful. I'm not sure you should let it completely drain all the time, but I don't think that should hurt it.

My kindle of two years old battery will only charge to half full, is that normal and can I replace the battery

Lithium ION batteries are usually rechargeable. The use mode for these batteries is that there are a set number of recharges that equate to the life of the battery. Usually that life is approximately 1,000 charges.
If you use your battery to 50% then recharge, you can do this ~2,000 times. As the life of the battery is used up, the maximum charge lessens which means where you may have had 8 hours of play time when the battery was new, you will only have 6 hours as the battery life is used up.
In order for a Lithium ION battery to recharge there must be at least a small amount of charge left as a "seed" for that recharge. If you drain a L-ION battery down to zero, it may never recharge again or the max charge will be reduced to an insignificant amount of the original full charge. eg instead of 8 hours you may only get 15 minutes, or 5 minutes, or no minutes.
You are much better off recharging when 50% depleted than using it up til your product stops.
L-ION batteries cannot be repaired only replaced. Most cheap products using L-ION batteries cannot have their batteries replaced.

Places like Batteries + are able to replace some tablet batteries.

Batteries dead after very few shots

It has nothing to do with your camera. At least not when your camera is not becoming hot. Some batteries can work for thousands of hours, and exceed the 1000 recharge cycles most battery firms are talking of. But the don't give any guaranty a battery will last that long.
Some camera manufactures give one year of warranty on the camera but only 90 days for the battery. So it could be your batteries are old and worn out already. You can use 2 AA size NiMH rechargeable batteries, to check if the do a better job. They are relative cheap, and should last as long as the original battery pack that came with the camera. Please, even when you are not using the camera, you should charge the batteries at least every 2 or 3 months. Then they stay in a better shape. Never use NiCD rechargeable or manganese (Zinc-Carbon) batteries.
Even the very expensive alkaline batteries won't last half the time a NiMH could work. GP batteries, makes ReCyko+ rechargeable batteries, that not exact do have the capacity of the NiMH batteries, but they can hold the charge much longer. You only have to charge them once a year, when you did not use them. and still after a year they should have enough power to make a bunch of pictures.

Laptop lost battery back-up suddenly.

If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

My acer aspire 5738g get full charged and run only 5 minutes after plug off.

Time to buy and replace the battery. The life of a battery is approximately 2 years with numerous recharges it depletes the life. Often better to run it mainly on AC rather than to charge it and use the battery.

My hp pavillion dv7600 is not charging. The power supply is plugged in, it starts off like the battery is charging for approximately 15sec. then it stops. the laptop is approximately 1.5 years.

Time to replace the battery. 1.5 to about 2 years is typical life for most laptop batteries. You can extend that but most people typically don't get more than 2 years.
You should do a search for the battery online as you can save a ton by shopping around. For example I have a Toshiba laptop I need a new battery and was shopping around. From Toshiba the battery is $202 from several other places it was $35 and up with a 3 year warranty. The cheapest place was AMAZO...com something sounded like that river in south america you know the Amazon. Not that I'm recommending anyplace. You can find local places that may be close to that price so that can save on shipping.

A590is camera always indicate low batteries, even with new ones.

Which EXACT make and model of batteries are you using?

There are batteries which will fit, and there are those which actually work. If you're using cheap zinc carbon batteries, market/boot sale fakes, or generic pound store/dollar store batteries then you'll have this problem.

Your camera must use two AA size batteries, either alkaline cells (e.g. Duracell) or NiMH rechargeables. Fully charged NiMH cells will far last longer in your camera than non-rechargeable alkaline cells; according to Canon it's approximately 220 shots for alkalines and 500 for NiMH.

If you're using the correct batteries then the next thing to do is to check that the battery contacts in the camera are clean, bright and grease free, and that the same is true of the batteries. If you're using NiMH's then bear in mind that like all rechargeables the performance drops over time and eventually they need replacing, but they're widely available and not expensive.

Camera has failed to operate giving a "change batteries" message

Your problem may be due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, the camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

Batteries

The Lithium batteries that are provided with the camera will supply approximately 200 images. The Ni-MH batteries will provide approximate 100 shots per charge. The B-10LPB Lithium Polymer battery will allow 500 - 700 shots per charge and can be recharged approximately 500 times. B-12LPB Lithium Polymer Battery will deliver twice the power allowing 1000- 1400 shots per charge and can be recharged approximately 500 times. The Alkaline batteries, although can be used, is not recommended due to very low battery life.
