More that likely the fan is going out. Check the fan exhaust to see how much air it is moving if any. A laptop cooling pad will probably help out and possible prolong failure. If its under a year old, the maufacturer may fix it for you. You'll just have to contact HP and see if they will, or if they can get you a new fan to replace yourself if they wont do it for you.

I have an old gateway 7023ge computer and i wanted to find out the size of my cooling fans so i can replace them. i have 2 fans one front and one rear. they are both the same size.

Computer case fans for older computers were usually standard sizes of 80 millimeter or 92mm, maybe120mm. 25.4mm = 1 inch, so an 80mm fan is about 3 inches. Measure the diameter of the fan from the tip of one fan blade to the tip of the opposite fan blade. A 92mm fan is about 3 1/2 inches in diameter and a 120mm fan is about 4 3/4"

Again, these sizes are _nominal_, so whatever your measurement is closest to is what you need. You should be able to measure the rear fan from the outside back of the computer without taking anything apart.

Laptop shuts down on its own constantly. Have had for two years but only used for about a year because of problems. Gateway M series AMD Turion processor 64 2 gb 2 mg 32 bit operating

If heatsink is very hot then apply thermal grease between the processor and the heatsink or you can test if it's cooling problem by cooling with an external, powerful cooler.

A search for that part showed a lot out of stock. But here's one on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/Gateway-M675-Dual-Heatsink-Cooling-Fan-8008625-/230467425374 If you think it is bad there is no other way to find out unless you replace it and see.

The cooling fan on my Gateway 506GR has been noisy for several months. Now it "groans" every few minutes, but continues to run.

Have you cleaned all dust from the fan and inside the computer? If not disconnect all cables from the computer and take the tower outside. Remove the side panel and with a can of compressed air or an air compressor blow all dust from all fans, heat sinks, and all other components. Do not touch anything inside the computer without first grounding yourself to the chassis. If this does not solve your problem the fan needs replacing.

Hi, gateway w323-ul1 laptop cooling fan is not working.

Try blowing out junk in the fan by shooting air in the out vent. You can also try making up a very small hook with a paper clip and trying to see if you can pull out any junk.

If the Laptop is still under warranty call tech support. If not, you should still check the FAQ and knowledge base at the Gateway website.

Laptop fans don't run continuously. They normally run during boot and when the laptop gets too hot.

Switches off for no reason

The fans themselves may need to be replaced or the thermal grease on the processor may need to be reapplied. What you are describing is caused by something getting to hot and then shutting the machine down to prevent damage.

Laptop shuts OFF on it's own

Laptop fans DO NOT run constantly. They only turn on when booted up and once the laptop has reached a certain temperature. You should probably time how long for a shutdown, record your results. Let laptop cool for 10-15 between attempts. If it takes approximately same amount of time to shutdown between attempts it is very possible its overheating.
Other things like Viruses, software conflicts, and Harddrive problems can also be the culprit. take a look at the administrator event logs for any clue there. Event logs are in control panel under Administrator Tools.

I don't recommend trying to fix any overheating issue you may have, as that would entaiil disassembling your laptop. Unless you have a bit of experience in this, I would take it to a good repair shop.

Hope this helps you some. If so please rate my solution.
