New users get to try the service completely Free afterwhich it costs $6 per call and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

Hi Heart of Chr....

Here is the USB driver for your Sony Handycam DCR-HC52e:

http://www.camerahacker.com/Forums/Video%20Camera/Sony/Sony_DCR-HC21_xp_driver_needed.files.hidden/USBDRVEN.EXE

The Firewire driver is already bundled with Windows XP.

Software for viewing, editing and transferring:
DCRHC52 is compatible with Windows Movie Maker & Apple iMovie, meaning you can usually begin editing your footage straight away usingthe software already installed on your PC.

Hope this helps :)
Season's Greetings!

SOURCE: UNABLE TO TRANSFER VIDEO FROM SONY HANDYCAM DCR TRV TO MY LAPTOP

If you want to use the USB cable to connect the Camera to the Computer to transfer the video to the Computer then:

This Camcorder does not support USB streaming with the VISTA Operating System. Use an i.LINK cable to transfer the video to the Computer. The i.LINK port is also called IEEE 1394 or Firewire port. (An i.LINK is a black D shaped connector with 4 or 6 pins. The type of cable to be used will depend on the i.LINK port of your Computer. The Sony Camcorder will have the 4 pin i.LINK cable and if the computer has the 6 pin i.LINK port, then you may have to use the 4 pin to 6 pin i.LINK Cable).

You can use any video capturing software like Windows Movie Maker to transfer the video from the Computer.

Refer this link for the instruction to transfer the video to the Computer using i.LINK cable.

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C111893

NOTE: As the Camcorder does not support USB streaming with Vista, it is not required to use any Sony Device Driver to transfer the video to the Computer. You do not require any Drivers or Software from Sony to transfer the video from the Camcorder to the Computer using the i.LINK/Firewire interface.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi.

My name is Rick and I am the owner and technician of Discount Camera Repair. The problem you are experiencing is caused by a faulty LCD flex cable that connects the LCD to the camera and can be repaired fairly inexpensively but will require disassembly by a qualified technician. If I can be of any help please call or email me. I'll be happy to repair the camera for you.

My sony handicam model dcr-sr42 has all functions but the lcd screen has lines through it left to right its not that old can you help?

My had a year and start showing problems (LCD).
It's a internal flex wire connecting LCD with camcorder. Got from the repair shop did it by miself and it's like knew. you can take it to autorized center as well:D.It's a common problem as this cable is bend each time when we open the LCD screen, so the cable become faulty.
Good luck

Connecting to computer & importing images from HD of DCR SR 42

Mine does the same thing. After it says "connecting" on the LCD of the camcorder, there is nothing to actually do on the camcorder. With the Sony SR42 software installed (supposed to come with the camcorder on purchase-but maybe you can also find it for free online), the software called Sony Picture Utility (which is part of the big packge of software) opens up automatically and offers to either burn your photos/videos to directly to a compact disc, or to import them onto the computer's harddrive.
That's how it happens for me.I'm not-tech savy or anything. Hope this helps.
