Testing the Thermostat for Electrical Problems Again using the wiring diagrams, determine which of the wires coming from the thermostat supply the power to the compressor motor's start relay switch. To check the thermostat, you will need to take a continuity reading through the thermostat's main contacts. To do this, set the function on your DMM to the R X 1 function, insert the test probes into the holes on the harness plug associated with those wires and rotate the knob on the thermostat through its full range. In the thermostat's "OFF" position, the meter's LCD should display an "O.L." and then, as you rotate the knob clockwise, the LCD should display a "0.000" if the thermostat is functioning properly, electrically. If you get a "0.000" reading even in the "OFF" position, the thermostats internal contacts are stuck in the closed position, and you need to replace the thermostat.
Defective Temperature Sensing Tube If the thermostatic control checks out electrically, the problem lies with its temperature sensing tube or bulb. This tube contains a gas which condenses as it get cold. As the gas volume decreases, the spring loaded contacts open, shutting the compressor off. There is no way to recharge the sensing tube once it has lost its charge, so you will have to replace the complete thermostat control.

Hello Fixya.have a rfrigeretor Vestel (made in turkey). the terminal box (conected to the compressor) have been damage. need to know how to reconect again the wires to the plugs on the terminal. i'm...

The terminals of the compressor could have burnt and so depending on how the connections are damaged the points could be soldered or connected.
First of all clean the terminals properly , use a emery paper to clean the existng terminal part or the wires to the motor. Now use good wires to solder and connect to a ceramic terminal to which the wiring can be given.
make sure that the connections are insulated before the fridge is powered.
Tip:
Use good cleaning solution to wipe all dirt. Buy ceramic connection strip from any electrical store if the terminals are damaged.
Use a good soldering iron to connect the wires to the terminal.
The wires to the motor must be then connected to the terminal strip and strapped using a wire tie.

Hello Thayden,

I understand that the Refrigerator compressor is not working on your unit. There are three possibilities of why the compressor is not working, the compressor is bad, the starter is bad, or the capacitor is bad.

To check the starter you will need to do the following (most common): Refer to picture at the bottom of the post
1. Unplug the unit
2. On the side of your compressor there is a cover this is the starter relay cover.
3. Remove the cover
4. Remove the wires
5. Remove the starter (top piece stuck on two rods)
6. Check if bad (shack it if you hear a noise/knocking it is bad and will not allow compressor to start)
7. Replace it and the bottom one the over load.
8. Reinstall in reverse

The Run Capacitor (uncommon that they go bad but possible)
1. The little black or silver box that two wires run to from the starter
2. Check to see if contacts or unit is burnt.

The Compressor
1. If you replace the above items and the compressor is not running the the problem is the compressor. This will take a licensed HVAC person to replace.

The above parts are inexpensive between $30-$50 at your local appliance parts store. There is a 50/50 chance that this will work and save you the cost of replacing the compressor or the whole refrigerator.

Thank you for choosing FIxYa.com

Unit powers up, fans run, no compressor start

If the fans run we know it aint the defrost timer and you are getting power to the compressor so that means you have a wire done burned off one of the compressor terminals hopefully or ya might need a compressor. Probably just a burnt wire. These are pretty tough units. Diagram and run info

You don't need a diagram. The present control just makes and breaks the line voltage to the compressor. Just put your other thermostat in place of the original and you are set. Just two wires: line in and line out.

My Magic Chef Mini Fridge just stopped but the compressor is hot.

ok In the rear bottom where the wires plug into the compressor. There will be a plastic cover plate over the connecting wires. Remove it. Unplug the white wire. note the white wire was plugged into a small black box (3/4"x3/4") pull the black box out. It is connected by 2 prongs. If you open this up you will find a small metal disk that looks like a watch battery. pop it out and clean the contacts. put it all back together and it should work fine. I believe it is the thermostat and many times gets bad contacts and can even crack over time. The compressor will "click" on but the bad thermostat tells it "no"

Where can I get a wiring diagram for an under-counter Beverage-Air cooler. The condenser runs then stops after a few seconds. Figuring a bad relay? The power runs but the condenser kicks off immediately...

If it's the condenser fan you are talking about you will not need a wiring diagram. The fan should be wired to the compressor and the thermostat. the thermostat is the relay to start the fans and compressor. I will continue to look for a wiring diagram. When the fan wears out they will stop causing the cooler to overheat. I think replacing the fan would be what you need. I believe that Beverage Air used the Copeland compressor with the condenser fan mounted on the one end of the the same slide in compressor. Check your voltage on the 2 wires going to the fan. When compressor is on the fan should also be running. I just have the feeling that condenser fan is defective.
