In such case 3 things can be done:
first thing
1- boot from windows installation cd ,
2-press R when prompt for recovery console , you will have a command prompt screen
3-type this command and wait till finish : chkdsk /p or chkdsk /f
4-when finished eject cd and type : exit
you will have the pc rebooted
if the pc does not work try this
second thing is replacing your corrupted registry files with older working one from system restore files:
http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/restore-registry-hives-system-restore-snapshot-xp/

the last thing you can do:
is to boot from windows cd and reinstall windows with option "repair windows"

How to access boot option my boot option is disabled

Windows operating systems support a variety of boot options on the Windows Advanced Options Menu that allow you boot your computer based on your need.

They support boot options such as Safe Mode, which is generally best for troubleshooting and virus removals; or the Safe Mode with Networking, which allows to use an Internet connection while troubleshooting system problems.

Within seconds, you can access the boot menu and select the option that works well for the task you want to accomplish.

Shut down all currently running programs and restart your computer.

Press "F8" repeatedly before the Windows icon shows up on your screen.
This will bring you to the "Windows Advance Options Menu."

Scroll down and select the boot option you want.
Press "Enter."You can select from "Safe Mode" "Safe Mode with Networking" or your regular booting option.

Choose the boot option based on your need.
For troubleshooting, it is advisable to select "Safe Mode" because only a certain amount of drivers and resources run allowing you to resolve issues

Get safe mode off

Windows sometimes automatically runs on safe mode if the computer was not shut down properly the last time it was used. There is no turning safe mode off, you just need to restart your computer and everything will be back to normal.

Computer syuck in safe mode.

Hi,
1) If you have made the computer run in the Safe mode, it should automatically shut it down when you restart your computer.
2) If the Restart does not help, then there's a problem with your Windows installation.

I sure hope it's not like in 2 second step! Good Luck!

Ps3 freezes and shuts down after 20 seconds after powering on, what could this be?

I have the same problem. When it is turned on it shuts down within 30 seconds and I need to disconnect the power cable again before it can be turned on (and again shuts down after some 30 sec.)

Dell laptop runs in safe mode only

Try a system restore - boot to safe mode and restore it to an earlier working state.

Only works in safe mode. When booted normally will suddenly power off 30- 100 seconds later. Small amount of water got in but cannot see where. Any diags?

You are having an overheat issue when booting up normally. In safe mode, not all processes are running. Therefore, I would suspect a premature thermal failure with either processor or memory/ram.

Get a hold of a handheld meter that has thermocouple function. clip a lead on one memory card at a time observing the temp when system shuts down. Also observe temp of processor. if you have two memory cards, try removing one at a time until the system does not power down within the noted timeframe. Then toss that one you pulled out.

New motherboard put in my hp pavillion dv6262 in January when computer wasnt even 2 years old. Computer is trying to start up showing a black screen and within a few seconds shutting back down again. Is...

I have reviewed your problem and have the fallowing items for you to check and or try.
Try booting into safe mode and see if the same thing happens.
( F-8 )
Choose safe mode with network configuration installed.
If the unit runs without shutting down, it is a program conflict and not a hardware issue.
Run this safe mode start up, with no external devices connected.
Note... Remove any Flash Cards or USB devices, CD or DVD's .
If the unit runs without shutting down in safe mode, you may want to run a complete restoration of software.
Hope this helps.

HP530 shuts down within 15 seconds as it loads XP

Probabpy an XP problem, start XP in safe mode (press F8) as it is loading.
If it runs then it is probably a driver problem. Try restarting in the last good configuration. Keep posting until the problem is resolved.
