Remove Write Protection

You must disable the hard drive first to remove the write protection. So, right click on the external drive to disable it, connect the hard drive. Go to My Computer and find the hard drive, right click on the hard drive and de-select/remove the tick on the check box and change it to read only, then exit.

How do I change a read only permission to where I have full access? I have never used my hard drive before and it will only let me read stuff I can not move things on to my hard drive

You will have to be the computer administrator to change any values on any hard drive

click start control panel user accounts you should see a box with the administrator and the guest account if you have made one click on the administrator this may vary depending on which operating system you have

click start click to open on my computer you should see your hard drive usually C: right click select properties there will be an array of options select the security tab option then advanced make sure you have full control in windows 7

click start control panel user accounts click on the administrators account if you have made one or you will have to create one in windows XP
If you are running a Windows XP OS then you might be able to:
- click start right click on my computer select open
- Right click the icon of your Flash Drive (It should be F:/ or something)
- Click Properties in the menu that comes up
- Click the Sharing tab
- Click permissions
- And finally, click Allow next to Full Control.
hope this helps

External hard drive clicks and wont read on laptop

Uhoh! Sounds like you have the infamous 'Click Of Death'. Unfortunately this means that your hard drive has died and you may not be able to get the Hard Drive to read at all. (Its happened to me and lets just say I wasn't very happy!)

Drive will not start just clicks.

A clicking hard drive is a faulty hard drive. The clicking sound is the read/write heads flicking back and forth across the disk platters.
You can remove the hard drive and insert a new hard drive in the Western Digital case.
If yo need data off this hard drive then there are companies that can recover data from faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

My hard drive does a clicking sound

What?s going on: Your hard drive is suffering from read errors. It?s going to a spot on the hard drive to read some information it needs and can?t read it. Once that happens the built-in procedure is for the hard drive controller to put the read heads back into the home position (the clicking noise you hear) and go back out to the section it couldn?t read before. It will continue to do this a set number of times and then usually give you a read error or a blue screen of death. What to do: -You can try reformatting your hard drive in the attempt to get the operating system to block out the sectors it can?t read. Sounds nice in theory, however, if you have bad sectors developing others will probably follow which means you?ll have the same problem again. If money is a serious issue you can try this but chances are this will only be a temporary fix. -Replace the hard drive and reinstall your operating system. At $80 this is likely to be your best option if stability is your primary concern. Let us know if you have any other questions and please don?t forget to rate this post.
