Question about Hoover U5458-900 WindTunnel Bagged Upright Vacuum
I have a Hoover U5458-900 Windtunnel (not self-propelled). The bristles on the right side of the brush head (not the side where the belt goes) seem to have 'melted' together at their tips; and just the bristles in the first section of the brush. They also elongated enough to cause a burning smell while vacuuming my carpet.
I trimmed off the melted ends and the brush head now seems to work fine. What could have caused the melting??
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

I have the same problem with ours. If you lift the vacuum by the handle it breaks the lever on the transmission. You can find a replacement cable and lever on line for about $16.00 it is somewhat involved to repair but can be done by someone with mechanical ability. You can try and find a repair shop but be careful, they sometimes tell you the part is not available and try to sell you something else. I think they should be able to do the job for aprox. $80.00, but they may want more. I did it myself plus the height adj. knob for $24.00

· Sometimes grabs the carpet for no reason.
· Comes back too fast when I push it back.
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
Self-Propelled WindTunnel by Hoover U6445906 Without knowing the brand name or model number you may have the height adjustment to low and the vacuum will say “bite down” on the carpet of which will make the belt burn and might leave marks on the carpet – and if you have a self-propelled vacuum it does come back fast if you because you have a transmission just like a car and you have to control the speed of the vacuum or because it may have a weak belt the vacuum will pull back easier – I really would like to know the brand name and model number so that I could accurately give a better answer . Recommended belt change for flat belt(s) are 4 to 6 months for better cleaning and one a year for a geared belt – both can stretch and lose their cleaning function

On this model it is only a single slide adjustment lever. have you trie to tilt the vac backwards (lifting the wieght off the front wheels) and then slide the adjustment lever?
If there is a mechanical issue with it. take the bottom plate and roller out, and then the 2 small screws which hold the cover on underneath. you should be able to see the problem from there
