Question about Xerox WorkCentre XD155DF Laser Printer
Loud "Gear turning against fixed object" sound when copy button is pushed. Coming from top right rear of machine. Paper will not fully transport through unit. Stops by drum unit.

That is caused 99 percent of the time by the fuser.
There is a solid aluminum roll and a silicon rubber ( pressure) roller in the fuser. The pressure roller either developes some flat spots from park ( non running) time and over time heat and use cause it to deform and become out of round. What then happens is when the paper enters the fuser it does so with a slight twist, and the pressure of the fuser, for lack of a better term, Irons in that crease during the fusing process.
Gave the explaination so you would understand what is happening.

Here is a picture of the aforementioned broken gear, with a replacement gear visible for comparison:
From a different angle:
The printer repairman said that the plastic gear found in this and similar models can fail after as early as a few months of use. Best of luck!

Bad heat roll drive gear in the fuser. Very common problem.
Look up on google a business called "The Parts Drop". Ask for Britt, part is $13 or $14.

This post is loaded. First of all, there should be 4 screws holding in the fuser. Unless you are talking about removing the 2 screws that hold the pressure and heat roller together in the fuser. 4 screws hold the fuser in the machine, 2 screws hold the fuser together. I am not sure exactly if your fuser was mounted to the machine with only 2 screws, or if that is an accurate post and you removed the 2 screws that hold the fuser frame together. Either way, I seriously doubt the noise is coming from the fuser itself.
Now, the darker section down the middle. I would suggest taking the fuser back out of the machine and looking at the black heat roller in the fuser. If it is not clean and shiney, and has a rough texture to it in the middle, that roller is bad and will require replacing the fuser.
What I am curious about is, the rest of the copy. Is the copy fine outside of the middle? If so then the fuser should fix it. Note if there is some reprint, sort of ghost print in the middle of the page.
The rattle may be the gear on the back of the drum cartridge, It is a small gear that drives the cleaning roller. Pull out the drum and look on the back, there are 2 small gears on the back . One of them may have broken a tooth and is jumping and not rotating properly.
Another problem, as I read this may be the toner cartridge not having the ink distributed properly, To eliminate the toner cartridge as the problem. Remove the toner and look at the roller on the front of the cartridge. It shoud have ink distributed evenly across that roller, No streaking, it should be a dull black fuzzy apperance across the roller.
Firstr check the middle of the fuser roller for the wear I described. Then the back of the drum for the noise, then the toner carteidge for distribution.
If its not fixed yet, let me know. We can discuss the laser and scanner issues. But those are far less likely.
You posted a good one...
