Question about Zyxel ZyAIR G-302 (760559111205) 802.11g/b Wireless Adapter

1 Answer

No signal from the link light

Dear Fixya, My problem is that I've followed the steps in the installation guide for my wireless adapter by installing the software first, and then installing the adapter into the computer, but now my computer does not acknowledge my new hardware. The green power light is on, on the wireless adapter, so that should mean it's installed correctly, but the link light does not come on at all because there is no signal. When I go to the ZyXEL program it says "Driver Not Loaded" so I'm guessing this and the fact that my computer doesn't acknowledge the hardware are related. Any help you could offer would be awesome. Thank you. Sincerely, Rich

Hello
You might want to try the latest drivers from the main dlink homepage. I took me the liberty to find them for you.
ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Wireless/dwa556/Drivers/dwa556_drivers_140.zip
You press that link and download it. It's in a zip compressed format. So unless windows can unpack it for you after opening it you will need a decompressing tool like WinZip or WinRar
Once you've downloaded it you can follow this quick guide.
ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Wireless/dwa556/QIG/dwa556_QIG_140.zip
Good Luck! If you still need a hand just post here again.

How to setup a Wireless Network

1. <b>Connect Your Wireless Router</b> <br /><b>a.</b> Power off your cable modem and your wired PC.<br /><b>b.</b> Unplug the Ethernet cable from your cable/DSL modem and plug it into one of the LAN ports on the back of the wireless router. Leave other end of the cable connected to your PC.<br /><b>c.</b> Connect another Ethernet cable between your modem's Ethernet port and the wireless router's WAN port. (The WAN port should be separate from the other grouped LAN ports.)<br /><b>d.</b> Power on the modem and watch for the status lights to indicate that it's connected to your Internet service. This may take a minute or so.<br /><b>e.</b> Plug in the router. The status lights will blink as it runs through its diagnostics; this may also take a minute or so.<br /><b>f.</b> Start up your wired PC.<br />2. <b>Configure your Wireless Router</b><br /><b>a.</b> Refer to the router's quick-start guide, launch Internet Explorer, and type in the address indicated in the guide.<br /><b>b.</b> Follow the on-screen setup wizard, which will guide you through the process step by step.<br /><b>c.</b> Enable your router's security functions. This is very important if you don't want other people attaching to your wireless signal. The options will be WEP and WPA. Both will ask you to enter a key. Depending on the router's manufacturer, you may have to go into Advanced Settings to accomplish this step.<br /><b>d.</b> Change the default administrator's password, Almost all hackers know them.<br /><b>e.</b> Change the SSID-the name of your wireless network. Again, hackers know many of the default SSIDs and can use them to hack your network.<br />3. <b>Install a Wireless PCI Card in a Desktop PC</b> <br /><b>a.</b> Refer to the card manufacturer's quick-start guide. If necessary, run the software installation program.<br /><b>b.</b> Power down the PC.<br /><b>c.</b> Remove the cover.<br /><b>d.</b> Find an available PCI slot and remove the slot cover from the back of the PC.<br /><b>e.</b> Carefully insert the antenna through the open slot in the back of the PC, carefully push the card in the slot, and secure it. This issue could be due to corrupt wireless drivers or corrupt BIOS settings or hardware malfunction of the wireless card. To isolate the issue, perform the steps provided below.

NOTE: If your notebook model is HP Pavilion DV6449US PC Notebook, then only perform the below steps. If your notebook model is different, then I recommend you to not to update BIOS and install the wireless.

Please follow the steps listed below to uninstall the wireless drivers from the notebook:
1. Click Start.
2. Type Device Manager in the Start Search box,
3. Click Device Manager from the results list to open Device Manager window. .
4. Now click the plus sign (+) next to Network adapters to display the installed adapters.
5. Right click on the Wireless LAN adapter(if listed) and select Uninstall. When
prompted, click OK to confirm removal.
6. Follow onscreen instructions to complete uninstallation process.
7. Restart the notebook. The system will reinstall the generic drivers during startup.
Follow the instructions on the Startup Wizard.
Now download and install the latest drivers for the Wireless network adapter from the web link provided below:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp41501-42000/sp41675.exe

NOTE: Clicking the link may give an error indicating it is invalid.
Copy and paste the entire link in a new browser window.
Installation Instructions:
1. Download the Softpaq .EXE file to a directory on your hard drive.
2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

Step 2: Update BIOS

Download and install BIOS update on the notebook from the web link provided below.

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp42501-43000/sp42854.exe

Copy and paste the entire link in a new browser window.
Installation Instructions:
1. Download the Softpaq .EXE file to a directory on your hard drive.

If the issue persists even after performing the above steps, then I recommend you to remove and reseat the wireless network adapter of the notebook and then check for the issue. To do this, you can refer the service manual provided below:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01035677.pdf

Now check for the issue with the wireless light indicator. If the issue persists, then it is clear that the issue is due to hardware malfunction of the wireless network adapter on the notebook and it requires a detailed onsite diagnosis by a service technician.

I hope the information provided would be helpful to resolve the issue with your notebook.

Does not show up on computer

Hi,

I am assuming that you have run the install CD for the adapter, after which you are facing this issue. mentioned below are couple of steps which will help you to isolate the issue..

Please follow the mentioned step to check if the Wireless card is installed properly

> click on start (assuming it to be a windows OS)
> right click on "my computer" and select "Properties"
> you will have the system Properties window pop-up
> under the Hardware tab, click on Device manager button
> under the device manager list look for network adapters
> you should now be able to see your wireless card under network adapter - check if the adapter is enabled ( if not kindly enable by right clicking on the adapter)
> once the adapter is active - it will have a green icon with not error on it.
Once you complete the above task you may follow the below mentioned step.
Following the below mentioned step will help the Microsoft to take control over the card and try to connect (instead of the software provided by the card manufacturer to control the device)

My lap top connecting to my wireless system.

Your computer is not yet connected to the wireless network of the router. Also, make sure that your wireless computer has a wireless adapter installed on it. You may verify it on the Device Manager. If you're using a laptop with built in wireless adapter , make sure that the switch for the wireless connection is on so that it will detect the signal of the router.

Try configuring or verifying the wireless settings of the router first by following the steps on this link:
http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=4585&p_created=1165894972&p_sid=RY2yXS3j&p_accessibility=0&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MTAwNiZwX3Byb2RzPTAmcF9jYXRzPTE3MjEsMTcyMyZwX3B2PSZwX2N2PTIuMTcyMyZwX3NjZl9sYW5nPTEmcF9wYWdlPTEmcF9zZWFyY2hfdGV4dD13aXJlbGVzcyBzZWN1cml0eQ**&p_li=&p_topview=1

After configuring or verifying the wireless settings of the router, connect your wireless computer by following the steps on this link:
http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=4055&p_created=1160185039&p_sid=RY2yXS3j&p_accessibility=0&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MTAyNSZwX3Byb2RzPTAmcF9jYXRzPTE3MjEsMTcyMyZwX3B2PSZwX2N2PTIuMTcyMyZwX3NjZl9sYW5nPTEmcF9wYWdlPTEmcF9zZWFyY2hfdGV4dD1jb25uZWN0aW5n&p_li=&p_topview=1

If you cannot still connect wirelessly, let me know of the following:
- model number of the router
- operating system of the computer
- wireless adapter installed on the computer (built in or external)
- brand of wireless adapter installed
- wireless settings of the router (SSID, wireless security)

D-Link DWL-G510 Connected but no packets

Hi,
According to the user guide for your motorola broadband modem it doesnot support wirless capability , ie it can only hook your computers to the interenet using the wire. refer the following link

http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/products/SB5101/downloads/SB5101_UG_EN.pdf

What is required , is additional pair of hardware ie.
1. Wireless Router(eg linksys or netgear)
or
2.Router/broadband modem(given by the ISP)

Your connection would then be configured through the wireless router , that would give you wireless capability.

Refer to the following link , it gives you the a step by step guide to setting up the wireless connection .
http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/wireless/2003/03/21/home_wifi.html

Best of luck .....

Thanks
mandeep

PS Do let me know if you need more assitance.
