That means the backlight is still working. It can either be the cable that sends the video signal to the lcd has broken around the hinge. or it has come unplugged or the video chipset has failed. Out of these the most common would be the cable is damaged. Easy way to test this is to use the external VGA port on the laptop and connect to a regualr computer monitor and see if it works and you get video.. (you may have to press the blue FN button on lower left and f5 to switch the video to that external output. If the video works fine that way. then the problem is def more and likely the cable... You need some fairly advanced skills to replace this and access to some special tools to do this without any problems..

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the laptop up, if you get a normal image on the external monitor then you have a faulty LCD screen and may be replaced. If you still get a white screen then you most likely have a faulty video card.
The video card is part of the motherboard and usually cannot be repaired, the motherboard is normally replaced but it may not be cost effective to replace. If the laptop is a several years old then it is time to get a new one.
