Question about Maytag Dryers

1 Answer

I have a Maytag Perform Electric Dryer Model #PYE3300AYW. It died in the middle of a cycle. All wiring has been checked, house breakers have been check, door switch has been checked. I replaced the timer today because a parts guy recommended it, that didn't work. Help!

If you have 240 volts going to the dryer the you will have a problem with the termal limiter, a set of contacts (normally closed) in the motor or your push button. Let go with the high limit since the pushbutton or the contacts are not in use when the motor is running.

the first thing to check is the house wiring.if you do not have a volt -ohm meter get one and learn how to use it! if not get someone who can.you could have a bad fuse, breaker thermal fuse on the dryer ,thermostat, timer ,or motor switch, or a bad wirer always check voltage first.check where cord is connected at dryer.3 terminals check from middle to left 120v. middle to right 120v. left to right 240v.if you don't get them dryer is o. k.

For the dryer to take to long to dry is usually a sign of the vent duct work being restricted with lint. Check the vent hose, outside vent door, and the internal duct for lint buildup.

May Maytag dyer Performa Model number PYE3300AYW will not start the light in the dryer is off i turned to turn off and on the breaker but nothing happens. My question is that if the light needs to be...

no the light has nothing to do with the dryer not running, sounds like a breaker issue. You will need a multimeter and some screwdrivers. first make sure that the breaker has power, you will need to take the front panel off, then with the meter check for your 220 volts at the breaker(where the wires are hooked up), next check for voltage at the outlet, if all these have power then it is in the dryers cord, you will need to move the dryer out and remove the plate and check for voltage, if it does then you will have to trace it into the dryer. Good Luck Tim

Dryer just turned off in the middle of a cycle and now wont start up????? is there an over heat button on the dryer motor ?????

The first suggestion is to check the circuit breaker in you house fuse box. If the breaker is not tripped this usuallly indicated that the dryer has a failed component link the timer, door switch, or motor.

I have a maytag legacy series that intermittently heats/.Do you know why?

If your dryer doesn't heat, check these:

Power from the house
Heating element
Thermal fuse
Wiring
Power from the house Check to see whether there's power getting to the dryer. Is it plugged in? Check for blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers--your dryer uses two fuses or circuit breakers. The dryer could tumble but not heat if only one of the two fuses is blown. If you have circuit breakers, one of the two circuit breakers can trip, even if the two for the dryer are connected.

Heating element Often a dryer heating element burns out, but doesn't trip the circuit breaker or blow a fuse. The heating element is simply a long coil of special wire. You can check it for continuity with an ohm meter. No continuity means the element is bad and you need to replace it--electric heating elements aren't repairable.

Thermal fuse On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. The fuse--which is about an inch long--is usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing. If the fuse has blown, you need to replace it. (You can't re-set it.)

Wiring A common problem is for the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, to burn and break its connection. Because the dryer can still tumble with partial power, the connection may be only partially defective. You may need to replace both the power cord to the dryer and the terminal block inside the dryer that the wire is attached to.

Dryer was working, quit in middle of cycle. Will

It's rather unusual for any internal failure to cause the dryer to just stop in cycle. Check the circuit breaker that supplies the dryer. It should be a double-pole breaker of at least 30 amps. Turn the breaker off and back on to ensure it is reset. Internal causes could be the motor, door switch, thermal safety switch, timer, or a broken wire.

No response from dryer at all

Make sure that you physically reset the breaker. Sometimes, it can fool you. Also check where the wiring harness is attached at the back of the dryer. They can short out sometimes. After you have established power to the unit, you can focus on the timer. Generaly this is the culpirt.

Maytag Neptune Dryer not heating

Q - My electric dryer runs but will not heat, what could stop my dryer from heating?
A - Things that could stop a electric dryer from heating:
- house fuse or breaker ( needs two of them ), heating element, burnt wire, thermostat(s), thermal fuse ( not all models ), motor heat switch, timer, selector switch, burnt power cord/plug.
A ohm meter test for these parts is here.

Look on the wiring diagram for the dryer. Follow black wire ( + side ) from plug to motor checking all devices in the circuit, also check for any on the white ( - side). Do all tests with the Electricity OFF. Safety first!!! Good luck. BpB
