Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I have a Sony STR-V444ES receiver that is receiving what I believe to be a static discharge. When I turn on all components, I will receive a random loud popping sound that usually happens in the first 15 minutes after start up. Sometimes the pop is so loud it sounds like a transformer blowing. This time the loud pop caused my receiver to go into PROTECTION mode and powered itself off. I have replaced the cable box 4 times and no fix. I am NOT using banana clips for my tower speaker wires. Could that be the problem? The popping is coming through my Klipsch tower speakers. I'm afraid the popping will damage one of my components - TV, receiver or speakers. Is it a grounding issue? I have everything running through a Monster Power HTS3600MKII. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Just installed gold tipped Monster banana clips on both speakers and opened the casing to the Sony receiver and used compressed air to clean dust out of the unit. I reassembled and hooked everything back up - starting only with right front Klipsch speaker and heard popping, so I removed it then hooked the left front Klipsch speaker, turned it on again and heard popping. Different speaker, different monster speaker wire - same issue.

Hi,
The AVR have problem in its pre amplifier stage. Normally this type of cracking noise will hear because of faulty op amp (operational amplifier) ics. To repair such problems you should have through knowledge in electronics. And also need SMD rework stations Beacuse all the op amp ics are SMDs. If yo have such knowledge then i have added here the link to the service manula for your AVR.

Refer the page number page number 13 first. Its the Audio section blaock diagram of the AVR. you can see the the suspected ic in the top right corner marked as IC410. Which is the pre stage op amp for the frond left righ amplifier. You have to replace this ic( integrated circuit).

You can find the position of the ic by refering Page number 27. Its the input board . On the board you can see three ics with 8 legs(four in each side) On the left side. You have to replace the ic marke as IC410. You can find the schematic for the input board in page number 26. the The part number of the ic M5218AFP-T .

Refer the sevice manual to know how to carefully to remove the input baord.

SOURCE: Sony amp str-db940 - protection

Somewhere in your speaker wiring, you have a shorted wire. This short can be as simple as a single strand of wire touching the other terminal on one of the speakers.

With a bright flashlight, look carefully at the back of the receiver and then the speakers for any loose strands.

SOURCE: Sony Receiver STR-V444ES and Blueray

You might have to go into the players setup and select the output and audio stream options. If it is set for PCM only it will not receive the Dolby or DTS signals if you selected them in the DVDs audio selection menu. There may also be a signal select in the Sony receiver to assign the digital inputs to selected units.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: receiver str-v444es no sound on headphones or

discharge the output circuit! If you don't you will blow a 10 ohm resistor every time. I've worked on hundreds of these receivers I know. They need the output circuit soldered at the voltage driver ic's and quite possibly some capicitors replaced on the digital board. The caps mounted near the heat sinks dry up the fastest. These are nice amps. Larry's Electronics Sacramento Ca. ledstiles@hotmail.com

What's your problem?sony v444es 5,1 wont turn on, only clicks the relay on power board non stop

Sounds like your power transformer is bad. You might also check the power board for cracks. This model had a history of that.

Got a humm noise when I turn receiver down,it does it on all functions what is it

Chances are it's the Large Electrolytic Capacitors in the power supply. As you have it on all functions. These are to filter out the 50/60HZ hum in the mains supply and so that's most likely what you are hearing!

Popping sound at random times out of my AV Reciever/Surround sound system when video is playing.

Clean and tighten all connections. Get a can of spray tuner and contact cleaner from Radio Shack to clean the volume and tone controls if you have access to the body of those controls. Some disassembly required. If this doesn't help, suspect a bad variable resistor in the amplifier circuit.

STR-V444ES just hums

Sounds like the output stage is shot.
Here are a few things to try. If there is an option in the manual to reset the unit to factory settings, try that.
If that doesn't work, disconnect all of the peripherals, and select the radio. If you get sound there, you may have a bad cable.

Beyond that I would say the amp needs repaired.

Sony V444ES Receiver

Ours started doing this also now up to 20 min of clicking before it turns on.  My thought is that it is a bad power supply since once its on it works fine.
