Question about Xerox WorkCentre XD100 All-In-One Laser Printer

1 Answer

Xd 100 I have an xd100 laser printer copier. The problem seems to be leaking toner on one side of the page. Splotches of toner appear on one side of the page. The stains have gaps between them but are not perfectly evenly spaced. The toner cartridge has been refilled once.

It needs to be replaced with a new one. There is a blade inside those cartridges, it is called metering blade, What happens is normally on the one side they tuck or just wear out. What that blade does is it puts the proper amount of toner and developer on the roller. When it wears out or tucks you get to much developer and toner mix on the roller and it has nowhere else to go but onto the paper.
Once you replace the cartridge, you need to vacuum the inside of the machine out. It can be diffucult and time consuming to get all that ink and developer out because of all the ribs and hard to access areas in the cartridge and paper feed area. Allowing it to run like that will also ruin the rollers in the fuser. Just take your time with a vacuum and a small paint brush and get it all out. I WOULD NOT recomend using a compressor or canned air because you don't want to blow that particulate matter into the air you breathe, or once you get toner airborne you will be cleaning it up forever.

Random light grey splotches

Sounds like the high voltage necessary for depositing toner on the paper is acting up.

I have been using my Brother HL CN 3040 Laser Printer perfectly fine, but just before the Black toner was due to be changed black splotches started to appear on all pieces of paper in one line about 12cm...

If not the toner, it will be the fuser unit, these are quite expensive however, you would certainly expect it to last more than 586 pages.

Luckily you say it is only 6 months old, the best advice in this instance would be to ring Brother and get it repaired under warranty.

I appreciate this may not be the answer you seek, however I would be providing poor advice to advise anything else on a product under warranty.

I have a xerox workcenter XD102 with a J1 error. What do I need to do?

J1 code on the XD100 series means that your toner cartridge is empty. You will need to order in a new one or have your existing cartridge refilled. Refills run about $60.00 and new ones are in the $100 to $125 range. has a very good remanufactured unit for $46.00

Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Black splotches down the page.

You will have to take the printer to have the fuser unit leaned out. There was most probably a toer spill that got tuck to the fuser.

Ink dots on right side of paper

Toner cartridge? So this is a laser printer? In that case I suspect it is not new? This sounds like old age on the main image drum, that will probably give the exact same mark on each page, correct?

Xerox XD 100 has L 6 appearing Nothing in the book about it.

L6 indicates a problem with the laser. Ususlly the problem is a worn out motor that rotates the mirrors in the laser.
I have seen a couple of times, the ribbon cable that connects to the main board from the laser just have poor connection. You can take the back off the machine and reset the connectors on the main board. But more than likely the laser will need to be replaced.I looked it up, and there are 2 different lasers for that machine. The prices are between $300 and $400. Wish I had better news for you. It is also not an easy replacement.

Xerox XD 100

I would first try opening the right side cover and inspecting the corotron. There is a small opening where there is a very small wire. Check for a small piece of paper in there. It would block the transfer corotron voltage and cause that line.
Then remove the toner and drum. Look at the toner cartridge and see if you can determine if its out of ink in that area. Then look inthe machine with the drum and toner out. Locate the laser and see if it the glass **** is dirty in that ares or blocked.
By the way. if there is no paper in the transfer wire, take some alcohol and clean it with a q tip to remove contamination.
