Question about Sharp Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

Front door closes on a model R-1610-11-12 but light does not go out and microwave cannot be started up. Door does not seem to latch in place. In lower door latch inside the microwave I can see a plastic part with a small round metal pick sticking up from the surface, but door latch does not seem to engage this.

I have a Panasonic 1250w microwave and the door won't close and latch and when it does the light stays on then once you do finally shut it and press start, the timer starts but microwave does not turn on!...

Sounds like an alignment problem with the door itself and/or the interlock switches which operate as the door is opened/closed. Recommend a factory authorized service center. You don't want to take the chance of a leaky door.

Kenmore quick touck microwave, door latch hard to open & shut

If your want to start the easy path, get a Q-tip and some light weight grease and lightly grease the door-switch levers inside the door latch holes and see if that solves your problem. If not, then you will have to remove the cover, and likely you will find the door switch assembly and it's metal mounting support are bent on something of an angle - the switch assembly should be at 90 degrees to the front of the microwave oven so that he door latch fingers can slip in and activate the control switches easily all at the same time - straighten the switch frame which may require you to remove the switch bank temporarily. The little bit of grease still doesn't hurt to do it.
Reassemble.

If the microwave door won't open the open lever might be broken. This part can be replaced separately.

Door Spring

If the microwave door won't open the door spring may have broken. The door spring is located inside the door and keeps downward pressure on the door hook.

Door Latch

If the microwave door won't open the door latch might be broken. The door latch is inside the microwave. The door hook, which is part of the door, engages with the latch to keep the door closed during operation. If the door latch or actuator breaks the door may not open.

Door Hook

If the microwave door won't open the door hook might not be releasing properly. The door hook is installed inside the door and normally releases when the door is opened. The hook is made of plastic and will break over time. When this happens it will need to be replaced, it can't be repaired.

Handle Actuator

If the microwave door won't open the handle actuator might be broken. This is a plastic part which can become brittle over time. This part is connected between the door button and the door latch assembly.

Why does the light / safety switch stay on when the door latches shut ?

Most likely there is a part missing from the door latch mechanism that you need. This probably broke off when the handle failed. It would be a tab or wedge shaped piece of plastic that strikes the door switch and pushes the switch closed when the door is completely shut. You will need to find that piece and glue it back on or get a new handle assembly from Samsung.

Model KHMS155RSS microwave is not heating food after the maid service cleaned the microwave

Hello, does microwave have power? Plugged in etc, lights working on front? All microwaves have a safety backup, the door may press onto a latch which will allow the microwave to work, this is to ensure that if you open the door during cooking, it will stop immediately so you're not exposed to microwave radiation. Maid may have disrupted the mechanism for this purpose, make sure door latches are OK, and door closes smoothly, also try unplugging and then plug it in and turn it back on. Hope this may help..

Hello My name is Mohamed. I have a sharp microwave oven model R-316FSU, I am having trouble opening the door. The latch seems to stick. How can I fix it?

Door catches.

One of the latches may be damaged or misaligned and is not lifting the other latch clear of the housing. Remove from any power source, remove the cover of the cabinet. Slacken off the clamp mechanism and ease the clamp over the guide to allow the door to open. When the door levers are in place, the door may be easily adjusted by slackening off the screws that clamp the door catch/actuators in place whilst holding the door closed and then tightening the screws. The rear of the door may be adjusted by slackening the lower door hinge screws and adjusting as required.
I hope that helps.

Hi I have a new Kenmore microwave model 721.8503 - it is a month old and wont turn on.. I close the door and the light stays on and it wont work..the door is completely shut

It sounds like the light switch isn't being deactivated which is preventing the microwave from operating (a failsafe).
Look to see that the buttons inside the microwave (where the latches are inserted when you close the door) are actually being pressed.
They may be out of place, obstructed, or your latches on the door may be damaged.
If you don't see anything wrong, try pressing the buttons yourself (with a pen bottom) to see if the light goes off.

Door latch on sharp 1480 microwave over the range oven

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

We have the service manual for this model and have uploaded it to our site here to help you.

You will need the free Acrobat Reader to view or print it.

The best place to order Sharp parts is Tritronics.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.
