Try starting the computer in safe mode. As the computer boots keep pressing F8 until you hear a beep. The computer will or should start in safe mode, once it has everything will look big, don't worry about that for now, click on start>programs>accessories>system tools>system restore and choose a date for when you know the computer was working without any problems. Once the computer has restored it will shut down and reboot. When/if asked what mode you want to boot/start your computer choose start windows normally. I hope this helps.

When I started my Acer Veriton Z290G for the first time it keeps repeating these: "Starting Windows" then "Setup is updating registry settings" then, ...

Windows was not installed correctly or it was corrupted by some dubious program. You will have to reinstall it , ideally using a separate Windows 7 install disk (not the recovery one, if you can find one) and using the key from the label on the bottom.

My Aspire M5641 Freezes at Acer Screen. It says at Bottom of Screen " DEL: Enter Setup F12 : Boot Menu". I cant do anything from here with computer. Any suggestions?

Does it say anything else? Sometimes this type of recurring message can be due to the system time not being set. Entering setup and configuring the time may work.

Computer won't boot up.... is saying configuring updates 3 of 3 0% complete then shuts down over and over again..

Hello there. Well it may be caused by corrupt system files that start your PC properly!
Power on the PC by holding 'F8' key on your keyboard.
Now go to safe mode in the menu. After that click "NO" so that you are allowed to work in safe mode (please don't panic when you see the graphics,it's normal)
Now go to windows\all programs\accessories\system tools\system restore
Here you are going to have a calendar. Choose a date & time when your computer was healthy & restore. PC will restart & all will be fine again.
That's it. Remember to send your vote & feedback to rate us. Thanks.

Downloaded windows automatic update stuck on 3 of 3 for last few days. tried last known good config does nothing, i always return to updating 3 of 3 cannot get my comp to do anything else. help desperately...

An issue has been identified by Microsoft that, after installing Windows Updates, a Computer displays a Configuring updates: stage 3 of 3. 0% complete message, reboots, comes back to that message again, and repeats the cycle. This problem occurs when Windows Update is attempting to install update 937287.

Follow this procedure to resolve the error:

1. Remove all connected peripheral Devices from the Computer.

2. Press and hold the power button until the Computer completely shuts down.

3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

4. Leave the Computer without any power for at least 30 seconds.

5. Reconnect the Computer to the power supply and then turn it back on.

6. Allow the Computer to start normally.

NOTE 1: Once the Computer has completely started into the Operating System, Windows Updates should automatically finish installing the update. If the update again fails to install completely, restart the Computer in Safe Mode (by tapping the F8 Kay at Start-up) and use the System Restore feature to return the Computer to a time before the issue started.

Click the Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore.

NOTE 2: To avoid this issue, obtain and install update 937287 from the Microsoft Download Center separately from all other updates on the Windows Update site. Install the update that applies to your version of Windows Vista so that you can successfully install future updates.

For more information about this error, refer to the Microsoft KB Article ID 949358.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aspire 5315 switchs of randomly and over heats

What OS are you using? You may have to update the BIOS.

For Windows XP or Vista you'll want to go here.

Remember to make backups and note your BOIS settings prior to updating. A good generic guide for for updating BIOS can be found here.

Hope this helps

I have an acer aspire laptop, when i start it up its says configuring updates stage 3 of 3 0% complete then it will shut down come back on say the same again and shut down again. it will keep on doing this

Maybe you could try the last known good configuration. When the laptop is starting up, wait until the acer screen disappears and then tap F8 on the keyboard before the windows screen comes up. You should get a black screen with some options that say safe mode. The fourth or so option on the list will be "Last Known Good Configuration". The computer should try and load windows. Hopefully that will restore the machine before the update.

If it works it would be a good idea to go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and fully update your laptop. This will download the update manually instead of doing it with automatic updates.

On shutting down my laptop it gave the message, "installing 1 of 1" do not turn off your computer. It did not turn off all night. I turned it off by using the on/off button then shut it down...

When you start your laptop, press F8. You will get a menu (Normal boot, Reboot...). Choose Last good known configuration (something like that).

Cant shut down

keep start button pressed 30 seconds, the pc should turn off. If not brutally unplug the power cable. Do a scan disk on restart.
