SOURCE: I have an HP ZD8000

I would recommend to disconnect all external devices and also internal cards and devices (hard drive, cd rom driver etc) just have your motherboard processor keyboard and power supply connectors and front pannel connectors press the power button and watch the keyboard, if it flashes the lights twice or once. if once turn off the power and then remove your ram modules and turn on check if you get beeps from the motherboard buzzers, if not its is evident that the motherboard or processor is definitely bad. you need to check and replace them.

some times even a bad power supply with less supply of voltage cause this if you have another power supply (SMPS) unit check with it.

SOURCE: hello, i have hp pavillion

Unfortunately the GPU on your motherboard has gone out. There are places that will fix it but it is best to replace the motherboard. The good news is that replacements are going for about $50.
CLICK HERE to see a list of motherboards for your laptop. ***Very important*** Motherboards are part number specific. The part number is on a white sticker on the board under the memory modules. Sorry to give you the bad news about your laptop.

That is a security configuration on HP Laptops, depending on the way they blink is the problem your machine has.

Here is the web page where this info is posted, in case you need more info, hope this helps you to determain.

This document pertains to HP Notebook PCs with the HP Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) beginning in late-2008. On startup, you may see a blank screen. If the diagnostic utilities detect a specific problem with hardware components, the fan turns on, but the screen remains blank. To help identify the cause of the problem, various LED lights on the keyboard blink a series of codes. The diagnostic utilities use the LEDs near the Num Lock or Caps Lock keys to blink a series of error codes. At the end of the series the blinking stops. The pattern of blinks will occur any time you attempt to start the computer until the error is resolved. Battery power LED blinks The Battery power LED indicates the condition of the power supply. When starting the computer, or when the computer is in operation, use the chart to identify the power condition. Battery Power LED Component Tested Error Condition Battery power LED off, and Caps Lock/Num Lock off Battery or AC Adapter AC adapter not connected or failure

Battery low charge or failure Battery power LED blinking Battery Insufficient charge on the battery When new computer is used for first time, the white LED light for the AC power connector blinks. Battery is still in "Shipping Mode", the light continues to blink even when AC power is connected.

To resolve, turn off notebook, connect AC power and allow battery to charge for at least 30 minutes, then start computer. LEDs near Caps Lock and Number Lock keys blink when starting notebook The LED lights near the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys will blink if an error is detected during the start up process. The LEDs will blink a number of times in a sequence and then stop. The number of blinks in the sequence indicates what component caused an error when it was being tested during start up. If the LEDs stop blinking and the computer does not start, you can press the power button again to repeat the tests. Count the number of blinks, and use the chart to identify the error condition. Knowing the number of blinks is helpful when you contact an HP support agent for technical help. First remove the battery and power cord for about a minute. Then plug back in and see if that helps. Otherwise please read the following:

Power light comes on but not working

First you need to determine how many blinks you are getting when you try to power on the laptop. Check the blinking codes below and reason behind that for HP Compaq laptops Blinking battery power LED Battery Insufficient charge on the battery Blink: 1 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - CPU CPU not functional Blink: 2 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - BIOS BIOS corruption failure Blink: 3 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - Memory Module error not functional Blink: 4 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - Graphics Graphics controller not functional Blink: 5 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - System board General system board failure Blink: 6 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - BIOS BIOS authentication failure You need to first Remove the memory module (RAM)- Try to power on the laptop ? then again reset it and try to power on. Check whether it is coming on or not. try the same procedure with Hard drive. If laptop is getting power on after removing one of the device then we can be sure that that particular device is faulty and we can change that then? Blank screen on laptop

Sorry to hear you are having problems. I have had this same issue before with this particular model. The following solution works 90% of the time.Perform a hard reset as the first procedure.
  1. Disconnect all peripheral devices and remove all USB devices and media cards. You want to test the computer not the accessories!
  2. Disconnect the AC power adapter, remove the battery, and then press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds .
  3. Reconnect the AC power adapter (but do not connect the battery), Press the Power button, Look for glowing LEDs near caps lock and num lock keys, and Listen for sounds of a disk drive and fan turning.
Meaning of Sample Blink Codes for some EFI Notebooks Number of Blinks or Beeps Location of Blinking LEDs Component Being Checked Error Condition Continuous glow Battery power LED Battery The AC adapter is attached and the battery is charging, but does not yet have sufficient charge to power the notebook. 1 Caps Lock/Num Lock CPU CPU not functional 2 Caps Lock/Num Lock BIOS BIOS corruption failure 3 Caps Lock/Num Lock Memory Module error not functional 4 Caps Lock/Num Lock Graphics Graphics controller not functional 5 Caps Lock/Num Lock System board General system board failure 6 Caps Lock/Num Lock BIOS BIOS authentication failure Continuous blink AC power adapter LED Power adapter Insufficient power
Blink codes are often displayed after a user adds memory to the computer but does not seat the module properly. The LEDs may also blink error codes if a hardware component is loose because the computer was dropped or jarred. Some HP Notebook PCs come with one stick of memory but have two memory slots. The problem could be that the stick of memory or one of the memory slots has a bad connection. The memory module compartment on most notebooks is located on the bottom of the case. The exact position varies by model. However, on some models, the memory compartment is under the keyboard. See your User Guide for the exact location of memory modules on your notebook.

Use the following steps to remove and reseat the memory modules: Step 1 - Remove the electrical power To remove all power from the computer and prevent accidental damage to the electronic components, do the following:
  1. Turn off the computer by pressing and holding down the Power button for about 30 seconds.
  2. Unplug the AC adaptor from the notebook.
  3. Slide and hold the battery release latch to the unlock position.
  4. Use your finger to lift the battery up and out.

  • Remove the memory module cover on the bottom of the notebook .Loosen the compartment's retention screws and lift up and remove the memory compartment cover. Remove the memory modules from the memory slots To prevent damage to the memory module, grasp the memory module by the side edges. Do not touch the metal contacts.
1 - Pull the retention clips away from sides of the memory module
2 - Gently pull the module out of the memory module slot
  • Reseat the memory module by holding module at a 45-degree angle, and pressing it firmly into the memory slot until it is seated.

After reseating the memory module, replace the cover over the memory compartment before restarting the computer

Hope this helps FiYa! If you find this solution helpful, please take a moment to leave us some feedback.

    Thank You!
