When you go down to the local belt store, tell them you want a green stripe belt (heavy duty for lawn mowers), it costs more but lasts 3 times as long. Might also check the blade swing on your mower, if it spins for a number of revolutions and doesn't growl, then you know the bearings are good, and you are not using a good quality mower belt

I am not sure what type of blade engagement mechanism you have (ex. clutch, tensioner/idler pulley, etc...) but make sure that the blades can spin freely with the belt taken off of their pulleys. It could very well be that one of the pulley bearings is seized.

i just replaced my belt on a cz 4817. On one side there should be a bar with a spring on it. If you sitting in it it will be on you left side mounted on the deck itself. Push the bar in for about an inch and then up over the lip thats the belt tension spring. you should now be able to remove your old and put the new on. If you need the diagram to show you how to lace the new belt let me know and i will email it to you. good luck
