Hello Sarah! There is no bulb to replace in your TV. Image is created by three CRT's and you don't want to replace them, just trust me on that one. It could cost you up to $1800 to do that. All you can do is to clean lenses of those CRT's. You have to disconnect TV from the power outlet and remove rear cover. Using very soft brush and vacuum cleaner remove dust from Red, Green and Blue CRT lenses. Do not use solutions unless you got something special for optics. Solutions will leave film on the surfaces. That would improve brightness and contrast of image. To adjust focus front grille have to be removed. Than central piece cover held by 5 screws. Behind it you can locate black plastic "box" size little smaller than cigarette pack. there are 6 adjustment "screws". Three of them are "screen". You don't touch those. Another three "focus" there is one for each color. Turn TV on. Hit "menu" button. And adjust focus for each color separately. If menu goes away hit it again. This is the only improvements you can do. Everything else will involve humongous amounts of cash. Good luck! Russ.
You can find a new OEM Sony replacement CRT's (red, green, and blue bulbs) for a model # KP51HW40 from a major Sony distributor at the following links:
I just had the same problem. If your lucky it might be a free 5 minute fix. The five light flashes mean impropper current. I took the front grill off, then behind that is another black cover, I took that off and noticed the circuit boards COVERED in dust. I then took an air can duster and blew off all the dust... works like new. No more flashes and in an out picture. The collection of dust was interfereing with the electrical current.
this happened to us about 3 months ago. We were in the middle of a movie and the screen went black, red light flashing. we went online and the lamp bulb is blown. you can order a new on online, cheaper than Sony will charge you.
hi, i had the same problem today. i took a risk and opened the front bottom panel(regular star faced screws located at the side) where the speakers and buttons are located. then i unscrewed the panel located right below it. i then unplugged the wires that were connected to the bulbs(sorry i dont know the technical term for it but there should to be blue, red, and green bulbs). when i reconnected i turned it on it was fine. its been about six hours now and it's working perfect. hope this helps.
If you take the front cover off and look at the bulbs, you will be able to tell which one is the red bulb. Looking at the front of the TV, the red shhould be on the left. If you need a red bulb, I have one that works fine. [email protected]
Hi,
To clean its front screen, you should not open front cover as its complicated procedure. just take off its back cover as its shown in picture and use air-blower to clean dust. Then use soft cotton cloth to clean its screen from internal and 3 bulbs / lenses (CRTs) and job is done.
Need further help, let me know.
Bye.
