Question about Brother HL-4070CDW Printer

Open Question

Toner leaking Out of the last 5 cartridges I have put into our printer three of them have needed replacing right away due to severe leakage. Replacement toners work but these things are VERY expensive so I don't always have them on hand. Is there any way to return them to Brother for a replacement? We are using genuine brother cartridges. The printer is about 3 years old and not used that often. thanks, Kathy

SOURCE: Brother 5240 laser printer changed toner still wont work.

When a brand new toner is inserted it has a switch that is activated when new cart is installed.

Machine has two toner light errors blinking is toner low, full on is toner out all stop,

I guess yours has not reconised new cart, was it new out of a sealed box?

If so then it failed to reset upon install

You can pull apart reset lever on left front of cartridge and reset to original position if you want to get just a little tecnical

One sctew carefull gears fall off ,white lever needs to be fully to rear of slot to emulate new cart status..

If brand new cart return to supplier as faulty.

If you just refilled it, go buy a real one to prolong life of your product

SOURCE: BROTHER Hl 2040 PRINTER WON'T PRING

I got exactly the same problem and the "reset" didn't do anything. I fixed it by putting a piece of duck tape on magic eye on the cartridge.
Fallow those step to do the same thing as me:

  1. Open the front panel.
  2. Remove the toner and the drum
  3. Remove the toner FROM the drum
  4. On each side of the toner, there should be a little glass. Put the piece of duck tape on one of them. I put mine on the right side.
  5. Put everything back in.
  6. Turn on your printer if it's not already.
  7. Now, the low toner light should be gone and the green light should be on.
Now, you can really empty your cartridge.

SOURCE: Brother 2140 toner light on, won't even try to print.

To get every bit of toner powder out of the cartridge, first remove the toner unit from the drum assembly. Second, find the little circular window on the right-side of the toner cartridge. Third, place a piece of black electrical tape over the clear window, cannot be clear tape. Fourth, re-install the toner cartridge into the drum assembly. Last, put the complete unit back into your printer. This worked for me.

HOW TO REPLACE THE OLD TONER CARTRIDGE WITH NEW ONE?

Here's the process:
1) Make sure that the printer is turned on. Open the front cover. 2) Take out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly 3) Push down the green lock lever and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit. 4) Be sure to seal up the toner cartridge tightly in a suitable bag so that toner powder does not spill out of the cartridge. 5) Unpack the new toner cartridge. Hold the cartridge level with both hands and gently rock it from side to side five or six times to spread the toner evenly inside the cartridge. 6) Pull off the protective cover. 7) Put the new toner cartridge firmly into the drum unit until you hear it lock into place. If you put it in properly, the lock lever will lift automatically. 8) Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the green tab from right to left and left to right several times. 9) Put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back in the printer. Close the front cover.
That's it. You may also want to download the user manual as it has photos along with the instructions above. You can obtain that at: http://www.brother-usa.com/ModelDocuments/Consumer/Users%20Manual/UM_HL_2140_2170W_EN_1160.PDF
Hope this helps!!

Leakage onto paper so the one side of each page has black stain right along it.

Could be a leaking toner cartridge or the drum unit is contaminated and needs to be rebuild or replaced.

HP CP2025 Heavy smears of magenta appear down the right-hand side of paper. Have tried restart and changing paper weight.

It is due to spilled magenta toner leaking from side to the toner cartridge. Take the cartridge out of the printer and clean it. Clean visible inside of the printer. Shake the cartridge lightly in horizontal position to evenly distribute the toner inside the cartridge and put it back. The issue sould be fixed after some prints.

Good Luck!

Hi, my printer is a HP Color Laser Jet 2605dn. I've had it for several years and it's proved to work fantastic in all areas. However, in the last few months, I've had color issues. The printer prints out...

This printer does not use ink cartridges. It is a laser printer and uses toner cartridges. Yes, one or all three toner color cartridges maybe running out of toner.

Hp laserjet 1100 toner catridge refill?

Hi follow these steps..

1.Purchase a refill kit for your model of printer. It is important to purchase a refill kit designed for your specific model, since generic refill kits do not work well with HP printers. There are a number of places to buy these kits, but you must make sure you get the right kit for your printer model

2.Take the toner out of the printer and clean it carefully. Over time toner cartridges will accumulate paper dust, dried toner and other debris, and all of this must be cleaned away before the cartridge is refilled.

3.Flip the cover out of the way to expose the developer roller, then use a soft clean cloth to clean the roller. It is important to clean this roller before refilling the cartridge.

4.Make a small hole in the toner cartridge, using the instructions provided in the refill kit. It is important to follow the refill kit instructions carefully, since the toner refill process will vary from model to model.

5.Place the replacement toner in the hopper, then carefully pour it into the HP cartridge. Be careful not to spill any of the toner, and if you do spill the toner be sure to clean it up promptly. Reseal the hole you made after the cartridge has been refilled.

6.Sit the refilled HP cartridge on a clean flat surface and let it remain there for 20-30 minutes. Pick up the cartridge and make sure no toner has leaked out. If you do see any leaks you will need to reseal the hole you made again.

7.Pick up the cartridge and make sure no toner has leaked out. If you do see any leaks you will need to reseal the hole you made again.

Good Luck & cheers:-)

Toner on the side of paper when copying

If you are using refilled toner cartridges then your toner cartridge may be leaking or the waste toner tank on the toner cartridge may be leaking. The other cause and more likely is the drum cartridge is leaking toner. I would recommend removing both cartridges. Then hold each 1 at a time over several sheets of clean white paper. Tap on the cartridges and see if any toner falls out of them. These cartridges are normally sealed and should not leak much if any toner. If toner falls out of either cartridge you will need to replace that cartridge.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

My printer starts printing lightly when the cartridge is about 65%. It has done this on the last three or four toner cartridges. At first I thought it was the cartridge, now I think it may be the printer....

you can try pulling the cartridges out and shaking them up. sometimes it helps. However, if light printing isn't due to the toner being low, it's usually an issue with power. Make sure the printer is plugged directly into the wall and not a surge protector or power strip. If this keeps happening on different toner cartridges, then most likely the printers power supply is going out or the rollers are not being charged properly.

In short, if the printer is not under warranty, and the problem isn't the toner...replace the printer.
