If disk is not recognised do you mean not readable

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver

you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd restart your computer then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard

if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

hope this helps you

My computer recognizes my burner, but only as a CD drive and not re-writable. how do i get it to see it so i can burn data CDs

This is depending on wha tprogram you are using, not really on the computer.

You need to "tell" the program that disk is re-writable, and disk must-be re-writable, or computer will reject it. Re-writable disks are marked as such.

I would suggest searching google for "free cd/dvd burner" and you will have several thousand entries, as you did not provided me what is your operating system, I cannot advice what I would recommend.

On my windows system I am using few different burn programes, maybe one will suits you, this one is which I am using most often:

http://www.deepburner.com/

Of course you can go for example to this site and select whatever burning programe takes your fancy, I would suggest download several and then delete these which you do not like.

http://www.filehippo.com/

Again, you did not provided wha toperating system you are using and what burning program you use, feel free to ask further question on this topic if you require further help, but do provide "missing" data :-)

I get unknown error code 4260 when trying to burn cd

This is a disk error issue make sure if on windows you have the drivers for your CD drive(start>right click computer>click device manager) and also try an different make of blank disk.

TDK maxel and sony disks are notoriously bad on burning..

verbatin and imation disks burn without this error, stick to CD-R or CD+R disks the re-writables are notrious for not writing properly

this may solve your problem hope it helps

I cant write cd's

it is specified outsiide the cd drive "compact disk writable or rewritable"
if it is written compact disk writable outside then you can burn cd .
other wise it does not have writable facility.

and according to my knowledge it has only cd reading facility.
so can't burn cd.

for manual of it you can visit

My cd is well ....i have no idea

Sounds like a tough problem to have because half of the CD drive is working fine (the reading part) but half isn't (the writing/burning part).

Here are a few suggestions:

1) try a different CD writing program, if the Wizard says the CD-Rs are full, try a version of Nero or a freeware burning program.

2) if, when you load the blank CD, Windows says that it's unable to burn it, it might not be a CD that your burner can recognize. If you are using different or new CDs, try another one or borrow someone else's blank CD. I've had it happen where a set of CDs that I bought were bad and couldn't be used. Also, some cheap CDs don't work on some CD burners.

3) It might be a bad CD drive. If it's an older computer, you might have to get a new CD drive. Before doing this, I'd try reinstalling the software and drivers for your CD burner and try both the suggestions from above. Good luck

Philips CDD4851 CD R/RW in my HP Pavillion XT963

Hi,
if the device is being recognised, As D:- Or E:- et,c.
right click on the device, and select options from there.
such as open/explore et,c.
If the disk has been written to in any way shape or form, even the smallest file. then the disk being read will be classed as empty.
try a different CD Disk, And try re-installing your CD writing software.
Hope this helps mike @ Compurepair.

DVD-RW IBM A31 Thinkpad problem

I take it you are trying to "send to" files to the DVD-RW?You can't burn a DVD just with windows XP . It only supports CDRW drives.

Get commercial software like Roxio or Nero, or download a free CD burning program like this one:
