Make sure that battary is charged , the blinking leds in some laptops is usually a sign for empty battary.

SOURCE: Acer One 1542 series not boot

Hi,
Take out the battery and the mains power, turn the laptop over and remove the ram cover, look for the ram and take it out by pushing the metal lugs outwards so the memory pops up, it's now ready to remove, the ram (memory) looks like this >>>>>>
2906af6.jpg

Once the memory is out look very close in the memory bay for 2 brass triangles, they will be in the shape of a diamond, get a flat head screwdriver and short them 2 pins out, this will clear the CMOS, put the memory back in, turn the laptop over and plug in power & hit the on/off button.
When it comes it will say that bios settings are wrong so go into the bios and set the time and date, save the changes and exit the bios, the computer will restart and hopefully boot up with no more problems.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

So there is your screen resolution issue.
For that when you power up the laptop press continue F8 key then enter in "Enable vga mode " then go to control panel and display proeprty then go to settings then change screen resolution to 1024*768 then apply then restart then check .
If you cannot able to see safe mode and other menu whne you press F8 then your Dispaly has hardware issue because your motherbord working fine it gives dispaly proeprly to vga.
If you have vga port on laptop and you have other external monitor you can check it.
Connect your monitor to vga port then if it gives diaplay then some rong with your Laptop internel dispaly screen and if it is in warrenty you can use warrenty they repalced or repair your screen.

What would be the probable cause of a sony vaio fs830/w of starting up & the 3 green leds on top stayed lit

You were FORMATTING it? Meaning... you were erasing the operating system? If that's the case, then... you have no operating system and the computer cannot boot up because it has no operating system to boot into.
