The only solution is to replace the cord. MAKE note of the wiring before removing anything. The cord can be bought at any local repair center. Let me know what the brand and model number are and I will find you an exact replacement.

A short would cause a bight spark and burning of the cord at the place of the short.
Sound like you have a poor electrical connection at or inside the machine where the cord attaches.
Take it to a repair shop.

Electrical cord acts like it has a short

You could change the cord. Sometimes the wires will break inside the coating, it will appear as if nothing is wrong but can still have a problem .

I drilled out the nubs in the center of the screws. removed the screws, and took off the back plate. The problem is that the cord seems to be abraiding when it swivels, and eventually wears thru. It seems like a fire hazard and should be looked into by Rowena. Anyway, I cut out the damaged cord and reattached it. Problem fixed..

Power adapter wire too short to reach outlet.

It is tough to find the right power adaptor with the "right" length cord. Your best bet would be to use an electrical extention cord for the added length you need. "if you can't get the adaptor to the outlet....... take the outlet to the adaptor' !!!!
