Hi, I hooked it up on a digital receiver for tv, then I hooked it up on my pc and it looks empty with no files on it anymore...what shoul i do?? Thanks Simone

I'm not sure specifically what you're asking here, but there are a couple of options:

If you just want the Hard Drive to work on your computer again (even if you lose whatever you may have had on it), you'll need to format the drive while it is hooked into your computer.

I don't know which operating system you have (XP, Vista, Windows 7) or even if you're running Windows... so these next instructions may vary:

Open "My Computer" (or "Computer" on Vista/Win7)
Right-Click your Hard Drive
Click "Format"

WARNING! If you format the drive, you will be erasing it completely!

In the format menu, make sure NTFS is checked and do a Quick Format.

When it is done, you should be able to browse the drive, copy files to it, etc...

When you hooked it up to your digital receiver, it may have done its own kind of format so you couldn't load movies onto the Hard Drive and move them to your computer... It's possible that it's a safety feature of your DTV... The only way to know for sure is to try it again after formatting.

Can't see SATA drive

HI,

Let me first make sure I understand what configuration you have here. You've installed a new SATA drive and installed Vista on that SATA drive on this new motherboard. Then your trying to add an additional SATA drive to the motherboard that has data on it, but no OS. Is this correct? The problem your having is that when you put the drive with the new installation of vista on it, along with the old drive both being SATA, the old drive doesn't appear in vista but it does in Bios?:

Ok, if I'm correct in your config here, I would hook the new drive to SATA 1 and the older drive to SATA 2, and in bios boot to SATA 1. When you boot to vista, go my computer and right click to manage. Under manage go to disk management. It should see both drives and their you can format the second drive. If it doesn't see it, then try another SATA port.

Let me know, since I'm not confident on my assumptions.

Thanks
Mark

SimpleTech 250GB External Hard Drive can't be recognized

First of all,

uncheck the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option in the device manager for USB Hub Properties, Power Management Tab.

Try rebooting the computer once as C:\Windows\inf\INFCACHE.1 file may be corrupted and need to be replaced (either restore a previous version or just delete it and try connecting again).

Next, completely uninstall all USB devices and the main hub and then re-install.

Try hooking it up to a different USB port. Go to computer on the start menu and see if your computer sees it. Try restarting your computer with the hard drive already connected and turned on, the computer may recognize it then.

Using Windows Vista Suddenly can't see WD MyBook 500G

I had a problem with MY Book and I found out that if you plug the drive into a power strip it doesn't receive enough power, so it doesn't show up on Vista, but if you turn everything off and then plug the My Book directly into a wall socket, Vista will see it and put an icon in the My Computer area.

Pnp drivers not found for Windows Vista!!!

GO TO GEEKS.COM AND PURCHASE A USB TO IDE INTERFACE. THEN TAKE YOUR HARD DRIVE OUT OF THE ENCLOSURE AND HOOK YOUR DRIVE TO THE CABLE AND HOOK UP THE POWER ADAPTER THAT COMES WITH IT. THE PROBLEM IS IN YOUR EXTERNAL DRIVES INTERFACE. IF YOU CANNOT SEE YOUR DRIVE WITH THE USB INTERFACE; THEN YOU HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE DRIVE.

The problem is caused by Formatting the HDD in Vista before moving back to the system.

Simplest fix, hook it back to the Vista system and delete the partition from the drive in disk management. Once that is done, then put the drive with no partition in the XP system and boot to the XP CD, create a new partition and install XP

Link to VISTA DRIVER and software package, so yes it is Vistable...

Hint. Delete any previous drivers first then download and install software and drive package before hooking up to USB.
