SOURCE: terrific noise when defrosting cycle starts

check the back of the fridge, sounds like pipes are rubbing underneath, if you feel you are competent then follow the next steps, 1. Turn the fridge off and unplug it. 2. get to the back of the fridge with a good light or torch and inspect the pipe work, 3. make sure nothing is touching itself and be careful not to touch the black oval shape object as it may be hot (normal). if everything looks ok plug the fridge in and see if you can still hear it ,if the noise is anything other than pipe work , depending on the model you have , it could be either a fan bearing of the compressor is on its way out.

How do I stop a red flashing light on a fz175 hotpoint freezer

Unplug it - but I don't recommend that.

The flashing light indicates that it is working - and you can see it from a distance. Saves walking down the stairs to open the door of the freezer in the basement.

Worry about your freezer if the light goes OUT.

Good Luck

How do I fix my refrigerqtor hotpoint double door not defrostiong

Generally, if you unplug the refrigerator and set the freezer and refrigerator temperature controls to off then plug it back it, this will put the refrigerator in forced defrost mode. Keep the doors closed and allow defrosting to last for about 20 minutes. Then unplug again and reset the temperature controls to mid-range or a little above, and plug it back in. If this does not reset the defrost cycle, you probably need service.

I have a side by side fridge/freezer. Occationally the freezer side warms up and the fridge side starts icing. It happens sporatically. It is a hotpoint model hsm25gftasa. Tried giving it more air

The defrost timer also turns on heater strips buried behind the metal parts that the door gaskets touch. It may be you're just witnessing the defrost cycle. If you have lost power for a time, that affects the clock time of day the defrost cycle starts. I'd look at the defrost timer and reset the time.

Refrigerator has power but not cooling

A couple of possibilities: Coolant level has declined too far; compressor has failed, and finally, the defrost timer has failed. During the defrost cycle, the compressor is intentionally shut down and if the defrost timer has failed during the defrost cycle, the compressor will not be re-enabled.
You didn't include the model number so the following may not apply: The defrost timer is often located behind the lower grill of the unit. Remove the grill (often held by plastic tabs) and look for a small black box with a hole or a short protruding shaft. These often have a screwdriver slot to allow manual rotation in the event of a timer motor failure. If you find this, insert a flat-bladed screwdriver and rotate the shaft ~ 1/4 turn and wait to see if the compressor then starts up. If not, turn the shaft a bit further and wait again.
If the compressor does not start, either the relay that supplies AC to the compressor has failed or the compressor itself.

I have a hotpoint freezer which is self defrosting but its icing up and warning message keeps flashing up

There is defrost timer, that will shut off the freezer and turn on a heating element that quickly defrosts the cooling fins. then it cycles back on. If any part of that system goes out the freezer will not defrost.

What temp should my freezer be , also the fan in the top of the fridge stated making a noise when it stopped or started its cycle sounded like something was catching on the fans blades , then it stopped...

I like 0 to 10 Deg. F in the freezer.

As for the Fan. yes it could be ice or the fan blade hiting the shroud, sometimes the fan blade moves on the shaft and starts hiting the shroud.
